Set your character in rig_biped_simple by right-clicking your character's name in the Animation Set Editor, scroll down to Rig, and click on rig_biped_simple. Then, extend RigArms by clicking the plus sign on the left of it and click on your intended hand which holds the fingers. Below it, you will find the LeftFingers or RightFingers. Right-click them and click selectable (or select. Whatever). If there is no 'selectable', you will find a greyed out arrow just left of it. Click the arrow, which allows you to work with the fingers. Hope this helps!
(If I was not clear enough, watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEz7TslI-fs&list=PL2B46DEB4157E67C4&index=15 and start on 11:15.)

You are probably using the "Move" action instead of the "rotate" action. If you want the fingers to look as if they are moving naturally, don't use the "move" action manipulator. That's what you're talking about, right?

Okay, so just use the rotate action instead of the move action. It'll take sometime to get use to the joints and how they move, but with practice, it'll get easier.
