How can I reset the window layout?
Also you should be able to resize the model browser window larger, which might increase the available space at the right edge to get the drag icon to only affect the splitter.
Close Source Filmmaker if it's running.
Open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\SourceFilmmaker
Back up the key "MDLPickerDialog", then delete it.
Restart SFM. Enjoy a reset Model Picker Dialog.
And when you say back up the dialog, will the backup need to be renamed after the original is deleted?
The reason I said to back up the key is because doing so lets you restore it if something else goes wrong (which is unlikely, but always best to be safe).
If you're not familiar with regedit or the Windows registry, you should be very careful because messing with the wrong thing can cause serious problems for your system.
I don't want to screw up my system, so could you please walk me through exactly what I need to do from here (i.e. where to click, what to call the backup file, what to delete, etc)? I'd really appreciate it.
Right-click "MDLPickerDialog", select "Export" and save it to a file somewhere- it doesn't really matter where, because you're most likely not going to need it.
Next, click the MDLPickerDialog key/folder, make sure it's selected and press the DELETE key on the keyboard. You'll get a warning asking you to confirm you want to delete that key. Say Yes.
Close Regedit, start Source Filmmaker.
If all is well, you can delete the backup you took.
If you're wondering what we're doing- Regedit is a tool used to modify the Windows registry- that's just a giant blob of configuration information for all the stuff in Windows and the software it runs.
What you're doing is modifying the Source Filmmaker configuration to remove the registry key that stores the coordinates for where the Model Picker Dialog gets drawn. When you change the layout of a window, SFM updates that key so your dialog layout preferences stay the same between sessions.
After deleting the key, when Source Filmmaker is run again the first time you open the Model Picker, it'll look for that key, won't find it and just create it with some defaults, thereby resetting it to a default state.
That worked! Awesome! Thank you both for all your help :)
Way to necro this dude. It's like, 2 years ago and it's already fixed
