I've messed up the model viewer window
Hi all,

I've managed to mess up my select model window like so:

http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/211/9/5/model_viewer_by_sonosublime-d7t10ro.png

I did it because I expanded the name section of the window all the way to the right because some models have really long names and I wanted to see what it was called. But now I can't see the model in the window.

Is there a way for me to restore the window to its original size?

If you move the mouse pointer to the very far right, does it turn into the drag icon? Alternatively, try resetting your window layout.

It does turn into the two-sided arrow drag icon, but that resizes the entire window, not portions of it like I need to.

How can I reset the window layout?

Windows | Layouts | Return to Default Layout - but I don't know if it works on child windows like child windows.

Also you should be able to resize the model browser window larger, which might increase the available space at the right edge to get the drag icon to only affect the splitter.

Neither method worked unfortunately.

OK, this is VERY much an unsupported thing, but you can TRY this. If it breaks your system, I am not responsible. However, I tested it on mine and it seemed OK.

Close Source Filmmaker if it's running.

Open regedit and navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\SourceFilmmaker

Back up the key "MDLPickerDialog", then delete it.

Restart SFM. Enjoy a reset Model Picker Dialog.

Sorry, what is regedit and how do I open it?

And when you say back up the dialog, will the backup need to be renamed after the original is deleted?

Regedit is a tool included with windows. You can run it by typing "regedit" in the start menu.

The reason I said to back up the key is because doing so lets you restore it if something else goes wrong (which is unlikely, but always best to be safe).

If you're not familiar with regedit or the Windows registry, you should be very careful because messing with the wrong thing can cause serious problems for your system.

Ok. So I'm in regedit and have gone to 'MDLPickerDialog'.

I don't want to screw up my system, so could you please walk me through exactly what I need to do from here (i.e. where to click, what to call the backup file, what to delete, etc)? I'd really appreciate it.

Shut down SFM if it's running.

Right-click "MDLPickerDialog", select "Export" and save it to a file somewhere- it doesn't really matter where, because you're most likely not going to need it.

Next, click the MDLPickerDialog key/folder, make sure it's selected and press the DELETE key on the keyboard. You'll get a warning asking you to confirm you want to delete that key. Say Yes.

Close Regedit, start Source Filmmaker.

If all is well, you can delete the backup you took.

If you're wondering what we're doing- Regedit is a tool used to modify the Windows registry- that's just a giant blob of configuration information for all the stuff in Windows and the software it runs.

What you're doing is modifying the Source Filmmaker configuration to remove the registry key that stores the coordinates for where the Model Picker Dialog gets drawn. When you change the layout of a window, SFM updates that key so your dialog layout preferences stay the same between sessions.

After deleting the key, when Source Filmmaker is run again the first time you open the Model Picker, it'll look for that key, won't find it and just create it with some defaults, thereby resetting it to a default state.

Hmm... I did what you said, but the select model window is still messed up. Should I try deleting the backup I made (I saved it to the desktop) and try opening SFM again?

Thanks for all your help, but I'm starting to think I'll have to uninstall SFM, if that will fix the problem.

Go to Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/SourceFilmmaker/game/platform/config, and delete ingamedialogconfig.vdf.
