Windows 10 Particle editor white screen
I found that, while using Source Filmmaker, when I try turning on the particle editor, the window turns completely white, and I have to close the entire program and restart it.

This problem persists with Game Mode as well, though I can just press f11 in that case to go back to the main editor, which does work fine.

The computer I used is a laptop running Windows 10.

Specs: Intel Core I7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 16GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 960m CPU

Can someone running SFM on Windows 10 look into this? Googling at this point yielded nothing, so.

Otherwise what workarounds are there for Windows 10 particle editing?

The console doesn't report anything wrong.

This is not a Windows 10 issue. Is it possible that your system is a dual graphics type system (some laptops have both Nvidia and an Intel HD graphics capabilities) and SFM is not using the Nvidia driver???

SFM is using the NVIDIA drivers, since I get Ambient occlusion.

That's a really bad and (actually) untrustworthy way to decide which GPU it uses.

Yeah, I expected the laptop to use the Intel drivers because laptop (no AO) but I was surprised that I got functioning AO, which means my laptop used the NVIDIA drivers instead.

Let me repeat myself...
[Source FilmMaker displaying ambient occlusion is] a really bad and (actually) untrustworthy way to decide which GPU it uses [to the point that you CAN'T decide it that way].

Ah ok. I'll try mat_info shortly.

EDIT: results came in:
Driver Description : NVIDIA GeForce 960M
My previous laptop would list the Intel driver under that field instead if I ran mat_info

Edit 2: Holy man forcing integrated graphics via Nvidia control panel really did fix the white engine window screen (read: particle editor). On the other hand, reverting to the Nvidia driver causes the problem to return.
Also, this would beg the question of why my Windows 10 laptop can run SFM with the NVIDIA driver even though forcing thhe Intel one is a longstanding problem with [Windows 8] laptops.

Anyone with a Windows 10 laptop and a GTX card, does your Source Engine games say they are using NVIDIA drivers when you type in mat_info?

This would indicate that there may be some setting that is set in the NVidia set up that is wrong if it's throwing a white screen in the particle editor. Use the control panel and look at the settings, are there any that say use NVidia settings instead of use application settings? The laptop I have now is a dedicated NVidia graphics model and I have no problem in the particle editor and I run Win10 Home on that one.

Can you give me your listed settings from NVIDIA control panel for reference? I could compare and contrast with your settings to figure out what's acting up on my computer.

I run my Nvidia on default settings. Now, that being said, I have a GTX1070 card in this laptop, but the control centre should be the same. In the top right corner there is a Restore Defaults link. Try that??

It didn't help, even when I set the default on both application and global settings.

when is the last time you verified the SFM Cache files?

When is the last time you updated your video drivers? (Doing that monthly or so is very important, and can fix stuff like this.)
