Fix for Steam Length Error [SERVER OWNERS PLS READ]
Note: Be sure that you have this cvar set in your server.cfg file, otherwise your server won't show up on the Server Browser:
sv_master_legacy_mode 0
Hi,

With Valve's help, we have an update out for the ZPS server community. This will fix the "STEAM certificate length error! 0/2048" issue that appeared this week. The issue was related to the Linux Dedicated Servers and one of the most recent Steam Client updates.

Server owners (Linux ones in particular), if you haven't already you need to make sure that your server is properly configured to use SteamCMD.

Once you've done that, you need to update your ZPS server files with SteamCMD. Our Server AppID is 17505.

We're trying to get in contact with Valve to hopefully resolve this issue outside of the workarounds.

I am having this problem as well. I have uninstalled steam, reinstalled steam and had the problem right away with zombie panic source. Then uninstalled the game, downloaded it again and still the problem persists.

I was never in the beta so now I've opted into the beta and restarted steam, and opted out of the beta and restarted steam again, still the problem persists.

Now I've deleted everything in my folder with the exception of the steamapps folder and steam.exe. Restarting steam and it updated. However I still get the problem while trying to join a game. Any other ideas? I was doing just fine yesterday :(

UPDATE:

According to Valve this issue stems from dedicated servers not updating via steamcmd. If you are a server owner PLEASE MAKE THE SWITCH ASAP. If you were not aware HLDS has been replaced by steamcmd last year and will no longer be used.

Why is it some people can join a server but others cant if its solely based off the owners updating steamcmd? It should allow players or not, no mid way. - I cannot join any server at all.

Have you reinstalled completely rather then just updating/patching? We tested it last night by starting a completely vanilla server using SteamCMD and had about 18 people connect within an hour.

Hello, I am from the Pirates, Vikings, and Knights II community (PVK2) and we had this same problem. I had contacted our server providers and they told me SteamCMD was already installed but they updated it which fixed the problem for our servers.

Thank you very much for the information!
