How do I get passed the first door, where you hear someone getting attacked on the other side?

Its a glitch you get when your fps is too high you could try D3DOverrider which comes bundled with Riva Tuner. Just run D3DOverrider then in game enable v-sync and now you should be able to passed the door while still being able to contorl the game properly. http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTuner-v2.24c-download-163.html

Yeah that's the Vsync bug as mentioned by Trickbiker.
