Mass Effect (2007)

Mass Effect (2007)

0xc000007b crash at start
When I run the binary file MassEffect.exe manually, it crashes straight away with the 0xc000007b error. There are lots of guides on the internet about how to fix this error but none of them worked for me.

Eventually I found out, using windbg, a debugging tool, that it was looking for the 32 bit version of d3dx9_31.dll, but it could only find the 64 bit version. I simply took the 32 bit version of the dll from the cab file "OCT2006_d3dx9_31_x86.cab", and placed it in the same directory with MassEffect.exe. It worked.

Just posting the fix here in case someone else has the same problem.

The crazy thing is that I ran the directx 9 installer, and it didn't install the 32 bit version of the dll, I suppose because it saw my system is 64 bit and decided I didn't need it!

Thanks mate, unfortunatelly for me it's not a solution, but thanks anyway for the work you've done!

Steam support shoud hire or simply pay users which are doing theyr job of getting apps working.
I've never seen working solutions or replys from steam support team concerning apps that failed to work fo me... maybe I'm just unlucky?)

Click Apply, then Ok.

Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect
