Ok, I actually have gotten a temporary fix for that. Apparently, EA (or whatever software development company) made Mass Effect to run well with the AMD processors at the time, however, they did not extend it to support newer processors. ME is actually supposed to run with AMD Anthlons or something. So basically, you have to enable the console in ME and type in 'viewmode unlit' and is basically gives you fullbright, which is a little annoying, but it's playable.
Yeah, it works, I've already tried it, it does make everything look super bright, so the aesthetics are a little worn down, but give it a try. However, I totally forgot already how to enable the console (it's in a really weird spot) but I'm sure you could look it up.
