Combat is so hard

Are there any tips one could offer to get better at the combat because I'm stuck on the part where you go to the castle in Redcliffe and I'm fighting some skeletons and they have an alpha which seems impossible to kill.

What difficulty are you on? I played through the entire game on Normal difficulty with only a few troubles although i'm sure others have done far better. Also remember this is a bit of a strategy game than an action game.

I'm playing on normal. I guess I just suck. I play every other game I own on a higher difficulty but I just found the combat in this game hard.

Remember to place your characters strategicly and use lots of potions. remember to keep an eye on your characters stamina/mana and skill cooldowns, they can easily change the tide of battle. Also remember to put points where their best fitting! An archer should have a high cunning and dextrity, etc.

Thanks I'll take that into account. I always try to fight it out but usually Alistair dies too fast and my whole party gets screwed over.

Where are you putting points? Who consists of your party? What class/build are you doing?
I happen to breaze through most battles as a reaver/berserker using two-handed weapons and as a regular ol' human. I try to just keep Allistar, Morrigan, and Liliana in my partai since they da best characters.

I'm a human too. I am a warrior who uses two-handed weapons with the same party as you just without Liliana and replace her with the dog. I just can't stand that ♥♥♥♥♥.

Haha, liliana? I always just told her to shut up about her religious views, why she's bound to leave my partai at some point haha. I'm a sucker for marrigan. Other then that i would suggest getting this[www.nexusmods.com] mod if you want to use your dog in the party and then have your partai consist of those peeps and also sten, he makes a pretty good damage dealer or pretty much anybody else, liliana!

Oh that's a great mod, but I'm gonna play the whole game and then start using mods on everything for fun.

Hehe, i still HIGHLY reccomend using it. It'll help that feature that i found ever so annoying. I actually liked how they did it in Dragon Age 2 where you can summon your dog but be as you will. I also HIGHLY suggest you switch dog with sten, his big burly quanari arms helped me bunch <3

Yeah I'm using Sten in my party now with my dog and the elf assassin I just found. To be honest, I really didn't like Dragon Age 2 that much compared to the first. I played a little bit of 2 and just found it less crafted than it's predecessor and I actually like the combat in the first better because it's not so easy like the second.

Haha, way to go back on the post yo. I freaking loved Dragon Age 2 for i don't know why. Loved it! Modded the heck out of it with some of my own tweakage(and twerkage) and some other peoples mods. It was less done i will say then the first, took me 30 hours exactly to do all of the content and all of the dlc. But hey! I have over 400 hours in it, 7-8 playthroughs and i'll never stop playing it! That is until Dragon Age Inquisition comes out. It looks AWESOME!

That's a lot. I never spent more than 50 hours on a game in my life. But hey, after I'm done DAO, I'll try out 2 again and see if it's worth playing through all of it. Dragon Age Inquistion looks stunning.

I gots even more in Skyrim(960 hours and counting in it). Skyrim, Dragon Age, and Pokemon(think thats an rpg) will always be my favorite rpgs and games for that matter.

My brother plays Skyrim all the time. He had over 200 hours in a one month period. I use to love Pokemon when it was younger. I have yet to try Skyrim even though I have it on two consoles. The Mass Effect Trilogy probably tops my RPG's list. The Witchers are great too.
