This is a game that has potential by the handful yet fails to deliver on its own promise in nearly every sense.
The game loods good enough with some tweaking but the overcontrasted style goes a bit to far.
Pysx causes some scenes to drop frames very badly and must be turned off for smooth gameplay.
but the main problem i have with this game is that it fails to realize its own point.
you play as faith, a runner who spends most her time sprinting around her city. This aspect of the game is very nice and very well deployed. You will enjoy the small learning curve and be bounding around as much as the limited storyline will let you..
Yes you dont get to roam around this game and play until you unlock the entire city.. BOOOOOOO to this... such a stupid idea for a game based around fun and creative ways of parkour.
Secondly and most annoyingly are the police. They are HORRIBLE autohit ai and designed apparently strictly to annoy the player that was enjoying the game otherwise.
In a game like this you want the police to shoot at a character and cause them to evade... however they impliment the.. if you are in line of sight you get headshot system.. and that is completely controdictory to how they want to to evade the police in the first place.. Make them miss and throw some aswsome bullet slowmo richoche in there. that way faith can feel like she is running through a shower of bullets and using her parkour to evade them.. in current it simply feels like a very simple system of.. is player in line of sight... if yes.. hit them if no.. no hit..
and lastly the storyline flow design.. you should want mirrors edge to be a theme park setting where if you plan to restrict the sandbox nature of the city in the story mode at least give the player a decent flow to the process of getting there.
The current early game is abysmal where you have most of your fun in the tutorial.. Then as you start the story you are introduced to stop and go jumping puzzles and cramped spaces... with short time limits on how long you have to traverse the cramped buggy spaces before you are shot up by spawned in police.
all and all had they simply allowed the story levels to propel the players through them with parkour encouraging designs they would had done alot better than the current system of Stop and go jumping puzzles.
This game has potential and im sure if they listen the sequel could be a blast. but they need to get rid of this auto damage aim and instead use cop bullets as a way to corrall the player into trouble or provide them with an oprotunity to use skill.
i see mirriors edge best form as being a highly cinimatic action movie style romp where the player never slows down and is flying from scene to scene... instead of repeating highly agrivating jumping puzzles over and over.
