Please help!!! Mirror's edge doesn't get past the splash screen!
When I open mirror's edge, I get the splash screen, then another small window opens, with nothing on it, and it just stays like that, and then stops responding! Does anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks

Ignore him, the game is worth it.

Have you tried verifying the integrity of the steam cache?

yes

Can you post a full dxdiag ouput through http://pastebin.com/ ?
it might help.
In the meantime, it might be worth trying to re-install?

@OP :
Try to go in "...\SteamApps\common\mirrors edge\TdGame\Movies" and rename StartupMovie.bik
This will remove the unskippable intro, even if it doesn't fix the problem it would reduce the time needed to boot the game to test other fixes (it might even work on its own, you never know...)

Rename or Remove? If so, Rename to What?

rename to anything - try "StartupMovie.bik.bak" The point is that without deleting the file, you nonetheless make the game unable to find it.

What Baldrickk said. Renaming the file allows the file to be re-named back if needed - you could also remove it if you want, or move it in another folder. The point is that the game won't be able to find the file and thus just skip the video.

Ok i just tried this and it did not work for me. I'm having the same problems as the OP. I have an AMD card, do you think that could be the issue?
Baldrickk Mar 9, 2013 @ 8:37pm
Shouldn't be. The issue with AMD cards is that they can't do the hardware accelerated physics so you should probably turn physx extras off once you get the game running.

Are you running up to date graphics drivers? It does sound like it is trying to start a graphics process and failing.

Have a check of the config file, check what resolution it is starting in, this could possibly be an issue.

Where would I find the resolution in the config file? It's been awhile since I've had to go poking around like this (Like, I think since GTA 4)

%HOMEPATH%\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config check in TdEngine for ResX and ResY values.

have a peek here for some other fixes etc: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1096344

This is what happened to me. What I found out is that for AMD users who got the game within the last half a year have the wrong version of PhysX installed. You just need to get the new version, which should be available off the Nvidia site. If that doesn't work, check other fixes online.

Good call. Not something that I would have thought of as I'm an Nvidia user, but now you mention it, I do remember hearing something like that before.
Try this out.

I found a solution to the problem!Go to : \Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config open the file called TdEngine and find this line, by pressing ctrl + f9 called : "ResX" change the value after the "=" to your screen resolution (ResX X ResY)
Example : you have a screen at 1920X1080, it has to be like that then :
ResX=1920
ResY=1080
