having problems on windows 7 64
i bought Mirror's Edge on steam and downloaded it normally, then when i clicked "play", this popped up:

" The program or feature "\??\C:Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\mirrors edge\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available. "

then, this:

"Unsupported 16-Bit Application

The program or feature "\??\C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\mirrors edge\Redistributable\vcredist_x86_en.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-Bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available."

then, this:

"Message

Failed to find default engine.ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting"

i wanted to know if there's something i can do to play this game on windows 7 64-bit, cause i wont install a 32-bit version of windows for a single game.

Thank you guys.

don't know but a friend of mine bought bf3 on another game platform and it didn't run for some odd reasons. so search on google for Dirext X 11 download and download the webinstaller. or w/e and that made it run fine. maybe it helps for you too.

check that it isn't in 16bit compatiability mode "Unsupported 16-Bit Application"

I run Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with 8gig ram on a i7-2600K CPU 3.4GHz with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 4g video card and have no issues. The game runs without a shutter. Actually I am very impressed with it.

Now, at the risk of sounding dumb, cuz maybe you tried this and it is really only going to give you info but useful info, but did you look at what the Direct X diagnostic program tells you?

You run the command DXDIAG (upper case does not matter and it stands for Direct X Diagnostics) to run it, click the windows start button and in the "search for programs" box enter DXDIAG then press enter. A window will open and the program will begin to run. Let it finish and see if you have any errors.

Look at the installed version of DX and after you look at all the tabs and tests, go back to the first tab and click Run 64-bit DxDiag. If you see errors (or maybe even if you do not) google "Download DX11 windows 7" and download it, and rerun it. It may give you the option to repair.

You may simply need to reinstall the game or check that it isn't in 16bit mode like Baldrickk mentioned, but it never hurts to see what direct x is saying and there is a lot of nice information mixed in. It is one of my favorite commands to quickly see what a PC's media output capability is.

One more thing, the comment about downloading DX11 - download whatever version your video card will work with. I run DX11 and just made reference to it.

Good Luck - hope you get to play it. Very frustrating, very fun game. You may find your shoulders up around your ears every now and then however lol

Runs fine with Windows 8 Pro x64. It is not a x64 problem at all.

thanks guys, i resolved this by right clicking the game and verifying the game cache integrity, then steam downloaded 96 files and the game worked just fine.
