8/10 deserves a play. I would recommend buying the Crysis Trilogy pack on origin. I do not like origin, but EA leaves no choice in this aspect. Crysis 3 is only available digitally on origin.
I bought the game initially outside steam. When it came out, it took the world by storm with never before seen texture quality and overall graphics. "Can it play Crysis?" became the most asked question with regards to latest PC hardware. Then after a few months, maybe years, the hardware did catch up. Although at first you had to spend all your saving to buy that 8800GTX and a core 2 quad to play the game at high resolution and settings, Now you can get a mid range graphics card and a processor to run it smoothly. Warning,
MIGHT contain spoilers. You have been warned.
In terms of the game itself, the story is nothing ground breaking. Typical sci-fi scenario, aliens came to conquer the planet. You are the only one to stop them. Here though, you are given a toy which nobody else has: A Nano suit. The mother of all Hi-Tech exoskeleton stuff. The suit is pretty self explanatory and straight forward. It provides you basic armour and health regeneration along with slight boosts. You have the option to cloak, become a hulk, or run like roadrunner. It will all be apparent once you play the game. You can use these options in a variety of ways to achieve your goal. This along with the fact that the game is a sandbox, open world type game means that you can go about and experiment things. This alone is enough to justify this game. The story is not really that absorbing, but the environment makes up for it to an extent. Weapon customisation is good too. You can add, remove many things like different zoom scopes, or silences etc. There is nothing more to really say about the game.
All in all, I would not really say put it at the top of your list game, but it deserves a shot just to experience the sheer quality of graphics and open world style game play. As I pointed out before, probably better off buying The Trilogy pack on Origin, way cheaper that way, with the only factor being Origin. But it could be something that we can overlook just for the good series this is.
Also note that Crysis warhead maybe considered an expansion to the original Crysis. It doesn't count as a game in itself but is a part of the Trilogy.
Another note, I did also play Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, and those games are better set than the original Crysis. But again, it deserves a shot so go for it. It will also help to understand the overall plot of the game.
