Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit here, worked fine on launch but crashed upon starting game, 64bit fix + delete profile folder and it ran for me first time.

I got Crysis on Origin and play on Windows 7 64 bit just fine. Does Steam Crysis come with the 64 bit launcher (as generally it only supports 32 bit games)? I think there is a patch that provides the 64 bit launcher (since it was initially a seperate release back in the day I think). Also make sure that the Steam version is patched to the correct level and there were a number of patches released.

Don't have Crysis installed at the moment to check, to tell you what to look at.

Don't you read the system requirements and information related to supported Operating Systems before you buy these games?

I have the same problem.. and btw I did read the requirement when I bought it a couple years ago.. People have upgraded and would like for it to work on their new OS. So go troll somewhere else..

Back on topic..

I have tried the compatibility of xp,vista, and 7 with no luck. Worked fine for me on Vista, But for some reason It is not on Windows 8 and I am still searching for a reason.. If I find something I will post a update.

same thing. even with the 64 bit work around thats available from the forums the game will crash while playing sometimes right away sometimes after a little while. i just bought it yesterday, so while I am not thrilled, the game does not work and presently there is no official steam fix, so i put in a support request if they can give me an official result great, if not then ill take a store credit buy something else and get crysis on dvd, or some non client place like bestbuy, because if you get it on dvd and patch it etc it works no problem at all, my friend just did this on his new windows 8 machine at my request, he has owned crysis since release, installed patched and has the official bin64 folder and launches the 64 bit client. the steam install doesnt install the 64 bit version. hopefully they have a fix but i dont want to have to hack away at my brand new steam purchase on my new not fancy but capable windows 8 machine and still get random crashes. all the cod games ive bought so far on steam run champion, so ill just put the money towards black ops which is next on my list. for the record i bought the crysis maximum version which includes crysis warhead and wars and both of those also crash at startup with the same result... oddly enough warhead has a bin64 folder in there. im not going to bother anymore ill wait for the ticket response and move on with life.

I had the same problem. The issue wasn't with Windows 8 pro, it's with the 64bit O/S. I solved it by using the instructions to get Crysis working in x64 which is as follows: (I've just copied the intstuctions from another thread)

O.k so here is the fix, grab the Bin64 file here,

Unzip it and paste it into the following directory where you have steam installed Steam\steamapps\common\Crysis

In this folder, do the following.

Rename the Bin32 file to Bin32.bak
Now rename the Bin64 file you downloaded to Bin32

You can now running Crysis in 64-bit.

To get Crysis Warhead working, you don't need to download anything, the Bin64 folder is already present, simply delete the Bin32 folder and rename the Bin64 folder 'Bin32'.

This worked for me for Win8 pro x64. Hope it sorts it out for you.

I've had no problems running Crysis from Steam on Windows 7 64-bit. No need for any hacks, you really do not want to use 3rd party launchers, thats begging for a trojan. Plus the windoze o/s is so weak, a trojan would destroy everthing you have. Just change the compatability if you must in your O/S. Using a "64-bit" launcher is just giving the game a compatablity layer for the "64-bit" o/s, it's not a "64-bit" game.
