I just downloaded it again today. It seemed to work fine until I tried to run the game, at which point the program froze. I dunno whats going on, but it's really irritating me.

So many people have this problem! Please help us!
While I am not sure alot of problems of a simlar nature have a tendency to be related to hi rez patching service (which is not uninstalled when you unistal tribes thru steam). If this is the case you will need to uninstall the hi rez patching service then redownload the entire thing.

The game will not work if the patching service has an issue ( I assumed it has to do with anti hack but I have no clue). I have had to do this mutliple times as sometimes over the years I played this game and reinstalled it a simlar issue came up.

This is a solution I found in another thread, worked for me. Exit steam before doing this or it may not work:

This is what you do...
1). Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tribes\Binaries\Redist

2). From there run InstallHirezService.exe it will ask for uninstall, proceed with uninstalling

3). After that go back to InstallHirezService.exe, to install it again but do the following...
Install the actual HiRez Service in...
C:\Program Files (x86)zSteam\steamapps\common\Hi-Rez Studios
Then when it says where to install HiRez Games put in...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\

4). When it is finished, run Hi-Rez Diagnostics and Support from your desktop.

5). Where it says Default games directory put....
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ and click 'change'
Then where it says Game Installation Directory put...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tribes

6). Go to Steam and run Tribes, it might say something about not running on Steam version, ignore it and hit OK, then you should be able to play!

What you basically just did is trick Steam into thinking using Hi Rez files and vice versa...
Your steam status should also say that you are In-Game Tribes!

NOTE: THE C:\Program Files (x86) IS FOR X64 BIT OS USERS,
FOR 32 BIT USERS YOU WOULD JUST PROBABLY HAVE PROGRAM FILES
Or you can just follow your Steam installation, because I have my Steam in Saved Games :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN. IT WORKS! I owe you one. For reference, you have to copy the directory path manually when you get to the hi-rez diagnostics part. when you manually put it in click change and then you are set.
