Check the link I provided in the other thread... it may be win7 compatibility problem.

i get that problem to but ive had it since i was playing it on windows xp. it is a real shame because i like ths game but i have decided it is too broken to play. there are bugs here and there and the game can crash but the worst thing is as the game progresses the pc players turns take longer and longer until it is compleatly inpratical.

This game takes a little time to become familiar with. If you are being attacked by fighters, a counter is to develop point defense weapons and load some ships up with only point defense weapons. Another counter is to build your own fighters.

well my issue is that the mouse cursor and everything else r sooooo slow, that the game has become impossible to play. i cant even get past turn one without a lagg = 2 the ping of like 9999!

One handy thing to remember, the game is set up so that one ship targets one opposing ship, you can't multi-target, so an AA flak boat is not a good idea, counter-fighters are usually a better option for fighters. This game is one of those games where if the game is crashing, you gotta re-install it. Also, check out the Captain Kwok's (?) balance mod a bit, adds quite a bit of content and *gasp* balance to the game. Gotta walk on eggshells for this game but I've found it's well worth it for the degree of flexibility in the game as far as design is concerned.

Most troubles with the game are from it's age AND the at relase way outdated graphic engine.

@Jdom Try setting the affinity in taskmanager to only one CPU. It's not designed to run on multiple cores. Doing that reduced a lot of lag for me and jumped my FPS by about +10. As far as turn processing. That's been a problem I haven't been able to fix yet. The best you can do is turn off neutral computer empires and limiting CPU empires to about 6

i only play vs one cpu and fps and mouse lag hell

Twitch_Uriah was telling you to open your task manager (ctrl+alt+del then "start task manager"), go to processes, find the space empires 5 .exe program, right click on it and use "Set Affinity" to only assign it to one of your processors. He was not referring to how many AIs you're playing against.

I'm looking forward to playing this again. Been a fan since SE3.

will that fix my lag issues?

In regards to the lag issue i think it might have somthing to do with what processor your using. Are you by chance running an intel processor? all my computers except for 1 are amd processors and the intel one lags and crashes all the time. My computer now is brand new and is running windows 7 and i have no issues.
