Game crashes on saving

When I try to save the game, I get an error: "Cannot create file E:\<PathToSteamFiles>\SpaceEmpiresV\se5\temp\temp_1.dat" The temp directory exists, and all users have full control of the folder. The game appears to save, but the game crashes. It isn't a critical problem, but it would be nice to be able to save without restarting the program. Any suggestions?

Go here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEmpiresV\SE5 (or wherever your install is located). You should have these folders, if any are missing create them.

SaveEmpires
Savegame
Scenarios
Sounds
Temp
Utilities

Make sure they are spelled and capitalized the way the are here. Any other problems just ask :D

It's generaly from my experience the temp folder that causes the problems.

For me it was the missing Temp Folder, and judging by the error message its the same with you , just make a folder called 'temp' in the main directory in space empires 5

Thanks for the list. Creating manualy the missing folders is a pain... I used batch command to create the missing folders:

md Data
md Docs
md Empires
md Fonts
md GameSetups
md Gametypes
md History
md Maps
md Music
md Pictures
md SavedEmpires
md Savegame
md Scenarios
md Sounds
md Temp
md Utilities

It seems that when Steam downloads the game it neglects to download some of the folders, namely:

GameSetups
History
Maps
Savegame
SaveEmpires
Temp

Savegame, I imagine, is created when you first save a game. The rest, however... Without them, the game will crash if it tries to interact with them. Be sure to double-check that you have all the required folders. :)

Oh hell yeah! I have been looking for a fix for this game for a while now. Thank you so much! It finally works for the most part at least without crashing that is.

Thanks Cipher, I had forgot all about this. Will need to have a game again soon :D
