Should I buy it?
this game looks very tempting and liking strategy games, looks decent. It seems to have mixed reviews but my real problem is i only have 3.23 on my steam wallet. I can sell my cards to get enough if i wanted but should I? Is it worth it? or should I just pick up IV instead? Or just not touch the series at all?

I was wondering the same thing. I previously purchased se4 after reading all the reviews and was sorely disappointed. The font on 4 is blurry and really hard on my eyes after a short time. I like these types of games, just not sure if this one is any better for resolution and game play.

I bought this game a few days ago and am loving every minute of it, granted since its an older game and I'm running on a 64-bit Windows 7 system there was a bit of a graphical issue with flashing occuring every so often, but putting it in windowed mode cleared that right up. If you do decide to pick it up however i reccomend getting the Balance Mod which can be found here http://www.captainkwok.net/balancemod.php but as i said before I'm having a blast with this game and its deff worth the buy in my honest opinion

P.S @ Barbadicus, I'm running SE V at 1440x875 (made the rosolution a bit smaller for windowed mode) and it looks really good, no blurry text or anything.

I bought this game years ago and have gotten more than my money's worth out of it. Great concept, lots of goodies, very easy to modify, create your own race with pictures, create your own ships with pictures, and much much more. Learning curve is not that hard, and its just fun once the large space battles start.

For the price today, it is a great value for the amount of "game" you get. If you like 4x and space games, this is well worth it.

There are many others out there that have better graphics and all that, but this is one of my top 10 4x strategy games.

Thank for the help. I just bought the game, installed the Captain Kwok mod, and am ready to go... So far it looks more visually appealing than se4.

How exactly do you put your own pictures on for ships and stuff, can you post a guide? Would be much appreciated =)

There are so many ship sets out there on the web, i would just google it. Right now i use a star trek, babylon 5, and some other made up ship sets. Also use custom race pictures, etc you can easily find on the web,

You can modify almost everything in this game, larger planets, cheaper units, etc......

I would post what you ask, just so much info lol. Best you look and find what you want. If you cant find it ill try to get some good sites for you.
