follow the instructions on this page!!
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2061775
First off open up the Abe folder
e.g: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\oddworld abes exoddus
And find the exoddus.exe right click on that then go to compatibility and change it to windows 2000 and then ok out of it.
Then leave the folder open and download the ddhack from this thread:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1765599
Just paste the files from that zip folder into the same folder as the exe you changed the compatibility for.
Right this next bit is the tricky bit, I noticed in another thread that someone noticed their copy worked when they pressed the 'Fn' key on the their keyboard. This lead me to think there was some issue with the overlay(by overlay i mean those icons that come up like when you change volume or screen brightness) when pressing those keys. I can appreciate on desktops there wont be the 'Fn' keys but perhaps there is still an overlay type thing running.
If you can find what this is I think it should stop the issue!
Anyway myself using an Acer Laptop found this overlay to be active when "launch manager" and "launch manager worker" were running in the processes.
"ctrl+alt+del--->task manager--->processes" it was a simple case of ending both these processes along with the changes I mentioned at the start and the game ran fine!
*OBVIOUSLY BE WARY ENDING PROCESSES YOU AREN'T SURE ABOUT THIS COULD SCREW THINGS UP
Also I doubled checked with and without steam in game community running both worked, but as a last ditch you could also try turning that off and running the game also.
Steam --> Settings ---> Ingame ----> Uncheck enable ingame community. AND AFTER THE FOLDER IS IN THE GAMES FOLDER TAKER OUT THE CONTENTS OF THE HACK THING AND PUT IT HERE C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Oddworld Abes Exoddus
SO IN OTHER WORDS AFTER YOU DOUNLOAD THE HACK INTO C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Oddworld Abes Exoddus CLICK THE FOLDER NAMED
ddhack_abe HILIGHT THE CONTENTS CUT IT AND PASTE IT HERE C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Oddworld Abes Exoddus THEN DELETE THE EMPTY ddhack_abe FOLDER AND IT SHOULD WORK HOPE THIS HELPS
