Unofficial DOW2 update discussions
Relic are maintaining their own sticky with updates on the games, so I've changed the nature of the thread for further discussion. Have at it!

So, they lastly updated this game three years ago, and now they are finally updating this game again?

Sounds more like "We dont give a ♥♥♥♥, this game is dead anyway" for me ....

What sort of 'updates' were you expecting? Isn't Retribution the 'update'? I don't really have a problem with developers eventually moving on from their games, but this is about the game physically working.

Thanks for contacting Relic and posting their response. I keep expecting PC Gamer or RPS to try and do so whenever they talk about the upcoming demise of GFWL, but neither one seem interested in attempting actual journalism regarding this matter.

Nope, you're wrong about the game dying.

What happens to the games and downloaded content that I purchased?

You can continue to enjoy previously purchased games and downloadable content in your catalog by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client. Although the purchase functionality will be discontinued, the Games for Windows Live service will continue to operate as usual.

Not exactly ideal. A Steamworks conversion is the optimum solution, and will no doubt breath new life into the multiplayer community as well as provoke new sales.

gfwl is obsolete once it goes out, the only "service" it will do is save your games, how is that enjoybable to use a mandatory dead client so you can save your progress? It's more of a pain in the @ss in my book... also multiplayer oriented games like this one WILL die couse there will be no multiplayer

steamworks is the best solution

Final Kaoss: No, this is the first step before a complete shutdown of the GFWL system in 2014.

So at least they are trying to deal with it. However, I would advise anyone concerned to do what I did, as the more emails they get about it, the more they'll see that there is a genuine concern for this issue: INFO@RELIC.COM

This is what they meant to say. "We are sorry about GFWL shutting down almost as much as laying off majority of the people who were working on it. We will try to come up with something but.....look forward to some Sonic games."

It's not a hardware or software issue, it's that GFWL is shutting down (ie. no longer going to exist), and DoW2 relies on it for multiplayer, so unless the devs code it out, you won't be able to play it. Windows 8, 7, 32-bit, 64-bit, none of that makes any difference.

If you're mainly concerned with being able to play some kind of DoW2, then get DoW2: Retribution, which is the standalone expansion that has Steamworks, and no GFWL involved. DOW2 vanilla, and Reign of Chaos are the ones affected.

so how can ppl still play from their old system/original installement/just-bought?! Besides it says they wont shut down till 2014. from reading it seems that realy only Win 8 64bit people who try to REinstall the game from steam to their NEW system have this problem. And since their still selling it, I guess newly/first-time installed it works fine, cause i dont see new purchasers complaining. (sorry if i sound provoking, we all know we just try to find a solution/the reason, so im just bringing up my concerns)
