Anyone with Windows 8 getting DOW2 to work?
So I have a new install of Windows 8. Installed GFWL Marketplace Client. All drivers updated. Installed DOW2. Won't launch. Crashes as soon as Steam's "launching" window goes away, makes me submit a bug report which tells me it's something with GFWL. I log into the Marketplace client, try again. Nothing. Log in to Games on Windows 8, still doesn't launch. Verified files on Steam, still won't launch. Uninstalled and reinstalled DOW2. STILL won't launch, same error every single time. Running Windows 8 64-bit. Cannot find anything on Google that shares this issue.

hmm win 8 here, had an issue with this myself. try restart machine. load steam, run GFWL (no need to login yet), then run DOW2 through steam. if it works use the ingame GFWL login.

What I did to fix was uninstall GFWL through Control Panel. Then installed Microsoft Flight. Suddenly all my GFWL games work. Not sure why Microsoft Flighs' GFWL works better tha the actual program, but hey. It works now.
What worked for me was going to the steam folder and deleting the appcache folder and restarting my computer... did the trick.

I had the same issue. I executed gfwlivesetup.exe from the dawn of war 2 SteamApps directory.
\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dawn of War 2\Install\gfwlivesetup.exe

I installed the latest games for windows client for windows 8.
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient

This worked for me. Win8 64 bit

I am not very computer savvy. i just down loaded DOW2 retribution and steam. I have windows 8. its not working. i have NO idea how to get it to work. it says "preparing to launch" then that goes away and NOTHING. please help!! i have done everything the Steam site said to try. nothing has worked (i dont know what it means to "execute gfwlivesetup.exe from the dawn of war 2 SteamApps directory") please explain in laymen terms

Hi Brimstone, let me know if this explanation helps
1. Open the program "File Explorer" which views the files on your computer.
2. Find the directory where steam is installed. It is usually
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
3. Now enter the directory
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dawn of War 2\Install
4. Look for the below file, and double click on it.
gfwlivesetup.exe

If the above steps don't work try installing the games for windows client for windows 8 by clicking on the below link and downloading the file, and running it.
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient

If you have any issues please give detailed and specific information on what stage you are up to.

Good luck.

Hey TeddY,
I don't have the file you're talking about in step three on my pc. Any idea how to get it there?

I am having the same problem as Quyine. Whenever I start up the game it says that the dow2 auxillary failed to work and then starts the game but causes my screen to flash. I tried installing the windows client but it does not pull up any games.

Hi Quynine.
In step three you are trying to look for the Steam directory on your computer.
The default installation directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\. It may be in another location on your computer.

From here there are two other paths you can take.

1. In File Explorer search for gfwlivesetup.exe
OR
2. Download the file at http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient and install.

File explorer doesn't pull up gfwlivesetup.exe and the Download Client doesn't find any games on my pc.

How did you go with the download and install of the gfwlivesetup client? I was fine after doing this steo.
