LAN Admin
Everytime I get around messing with LAN, I get busted, game over. I suspect that being thrown off a LAN by admin may end with getting busted, although a guide I read said that it only throws you off. So why the hell can't I survive LAN?

Are you sure it's because of the admin kick you out... maybe it could be an earlier mission that you've forgot to erase logs.
nielskandersen 23. joulu, 2012 10.01
Well Wartface, I am very practised in hacking without a trace on Uplink. Maybe it's a bug. But it is crucial for my peace of mind that I get to know whether it has dire consequences to get kicked by admin or not... I assume by your question that it is safe. But let me share the fact that I only erase logs on first bounce which is internic. Is that not sufficient?
Thank you for response. :)

While this is enough in an early stage of the game,it's not sufficient at the point of the game where you are able to pick missions that include LAN break-in's.You should clear logs from at least 1 more bounce

I'm sorry to say but that isn't true. I only delete logs from internic and don't get caught anymore
To OP.

Are you delete your logs like right after you disconnect even if you have to connect again? Also a passive trace could have gotten you before you deleted one of your logs as they don't go for you right when they find out it's you.

One way to test this is using a glich in the game. Get the server admin after you then hit the back button to the very beginning of the lan. Even if he's there right with you he can't catch you for some reason. If you are still getting caught then it's from a passive trace. (or just thought about this just speed up time a few hours or when ever you are getting caught. lol.)

Also when the admin throws you off he starts a passive trace right away.

Another note is to make sure you have all 3 bypassers. The monitor bypass will make it so the admin and trace won't start unless you use the lan force.

Well, maybe I do not delete logs immediately after a lan attack, I don't remember. I will do so from now on. Thank you all for contributing. It has been quite irritating not being able to progress further than to lans in this otherwise great game.

If the passive trace is so fast that I need to delete logs right after a hack, well, then that is the issue. I believe that it is indispensable to own all three bypassers when doing lan... Don't know what a glich is...?

Hey,do not be sorry,i was always under the impression that it needs more "clean up" after a certain part in the game. So,in case thats not true, less work for cleanup.I dont mind beeing corrected if facts are against what i said

You need to delete logs somewhere that specify your hacking route. If you don't disrupt the bounce logs on your connection on at least one spot, you'll be caught.
Fire 17. helmi, 2013 1.01
When you delete the logs off Internic, make sure to just delete the bounce log and the admin password log, not the connection established log. This is because when you disconnect it makes a log, and that without the connection log is suspicious.

Ah, Fire, here may lie my problem. I have never ever deleted admin password logs. Hey!!! Maybe now I can progress. I don't know why I haven't taken notice of them. Thank you all, I'm about to play now, fingers crossed :)
Zhuinden 26. helmi, 2013 6.36
The ROUTED TO x FROM y ones are more important.
Have you ever seen the "Trace a hacker that broke into our system" objectives that you cannot accept?
Those Missions are looking for YOU. If you leave a trace, you'll be DEAD. Which kinda sucks.

By the way, you can avoid the LAN Admin by the clever use of the "Back" button and rerouting your connection when you had already connected to the main server.

But, Zhuinden, isn't it enough to delete the logs in internic? Frequently...?
I know that I can escape Lan admin, but does the deletion of files continue, when I am leaving the mainframe for a while? I am not sure of that.

Deletion of all Internic logs involve deleting the Routed from X to Y logs stored on the internic, so it's fine. It's just that I personally use Uplink Test Machine for this purpose for some reason.
I usually delete the logs after each high-tier mission I do, for example "elite agent needed for destruction of system". I don't even delete the logs on their machine itself, just the routed log on the UTM - they can't catch me like that.

The deletion of files doesn't continue if you disconnect, even if you start it from console. What you see is what happens.

I suppose test machine is equally good since it is Upllink's own site and nobody will try and trace you. I just prefer internic since I can make a search for a link after my deleting. I think that not deleting the "password accepted" was the big deal, the issue that took me out time after time. That just proves that Uplink is a great game, since I continued playing it :) Thank you all for comments. :)

LAN is the hardest thing to do in the game, its a syberpunk version of a mase basicaly (but you have a man chaseing you in this case a admin), trust me it took me hours to break into a system and delete the virus that will kill all bank systems, this is a mission in the game after all
