This Game Needs A Modern Version!! (Or Sequel)
I mean, this game is truly amazing. I just got this game like 3 days ago and i'm just amazed by its gameplay. I'm aware that this game is far from the real hacking thing, but the gameplay able to bring us to the level where we feel like we are doing it for real. This game is gold!

While i'm playing this game, i have some thought to remake this game to a newer version, of course it's not that easy but i seem to get the logic of this game (a bit). I'm a VB.NET / C# programmer (not advanced one, but enough to get some of this game's logic). But, i would like to pay $20 - $60 for a newer version of this game if the developer willing to remake this game to a modern one.

The reasons why i propose a new sequel (or a new modern version) of this game are :

The interface.
Today, we don't do phone dialing tone anymore when we connect to internet. I know that phone dialing tone is to give us feeling that we are really connecting to another computer / server. They should make a modern version where we need to set up a simple modem interface like you can do in your computer (192.168.1.1 -- Local modem console). Just make it simple set up, so players could feel the 'real' fun of connecting. And they could add a picture of modem on our screen with its lights (LAN, ADSL, INTERNET, WI-FI) so the players able to see if they are really connected to the internet or not (if the internet light went out, it means there are some problem with the connection).

File_copier, file_deleter, password_breaker, proxy_bypasser, etc. The developers should make a modern version where those software appear with new interface. I mean, the devs should make the real interface of password_breaker, make it simple, and so on with proxy_bypasser, etc. My point is, we could operate each of the software instead just clicking around, it's to plain for me.

E-mail / message reciever. When we accept some missions or complete it we got notifications. I would love to see the modern version where we manage our message with the real e-mail interface. And once again, just make it simple. We have inbox, sent, draft, label. The point is, to make a new modern notifications manager.

Man, i don't know, there are so much to improve in this game. Not to mention the "contact" feature which we able discuss thing with the company. This game is so awesome, but when i keep playing this, i always have the urge to improve some of this game's features.

I would love to be one of the devs in the newer version of this game, but my knowledge in programming is still basic for now, and i can't do it alone, just saying.

Sorry for my bad english, not my native language. :)

Thanks for whoever read this till the end.
My only wish is :
PLEASE MAKE THE MODERN VERSIOONNNN >.<

I dunno. A sequel or spiritual successor to add a bit of polish might be good, but I honestly think a lot of the feel of the game would be lost if attempts were made to 'modernise' it. Uplink evokes memories of hacking films from the 80s and 90s (which is where much of its inspiration came from), and if you made many significant changes to it, that feeling would just disappear.

you know there making another game at the momment, its in alpha 14 nearly 15, called prison architect. you should check it out. I wish they would update the game but these guys are very busy and move from project to project leaving little time for updating previous games.

Ya, actually i know this Uplink game was from buying Prison Architect's Bundle. I also get Darwinia, Defcon, and Multiwinia. But, Uplink is the most enjoyable for me!

I think if someone did a spiritual successor it would need to be more controlable and accessable. some hotkeys, reconfigurable GUI, possibly even some "custom" programs you could put together from existing parts or something. there are a lot of places to go with this that just isn't in there. Love the game though and i know Introversion is all about trying something new not making sequals, but it would be nice.

@TallonAM
That's what i'm talking about, some new features would be nice for this game.
Like you said, we need Hotkeys, custom GUI, and yeah some new program and customable instead just click activate -> select source kind of thing.

Overall, this game is amazing!

This is not how Intro works. They do not make sequels, and state that very clearly on their website. They have yet to make a sequel to any game they have created. However, you are able to buy the dev kit for the game, which allows you to completely modify the game itself.

Onlink isa mod for uplink and the best one that was out at the time, sadly nobody pursued the completion and it died off.

Dont expect a sequel of this from Intro, although it WOULD be in their best interest to make one :P

Those of you looking for a modern-er frequently updated version of uplink, go get codelink. 100% free, 10,000% better UI, more interactive programs, (like you wanted frontliner), a persistant world shared by everyone, better music along with an in-game music player for your own tunes, and awesome multiplayer PVP. Factions are in the works too, as well as a story.

In other words, for those of you looking for an updated sequel to Uplink, this is it. This is the beginning of a new adventure.

And remember, trust may be a weakness, but truth is a weapon. ;)

I don't know of any others on Steam.
There aren't any others (hacking tends to be nothing more than a minigame rather than the focus of a whole game), and to be honest I wouldn't say the Hacker Evolution series is remotely similar to Uplink either - admittedly I only played the original game for a couple of hours (several years ago) but I seem to recall it being more of a puzzle game with a hacking theme rather than the simulation game it's trying to pass itself off as.

An update/sequel would definetly be enjoyed by many people, myself included. But I'd rather not be forced to play against other players. That's what MMOs are for, and I don't play any them anymore. Therefore, while Codelink has alot of promise, I don't like the PVP stuff, and I won't be looking into it.

PVP is really quite optional there. You have to plug in a HUD chip to be able to engage in low-level combat between servers and players. Otherwise no-one can touch you.

onlink is the closest to uplink 2. Unfortunatly the devs tend to do MIA a lot. If u can find a copy its well worth it though

Except that's ♥♥♥♥ing stupid, you don't "operate" software irl you just hit delete and job's done after a progress bar appears.

I believe there is an actual web version of the game avalible somewhere, so you don't have to download it.

Kongragate; IIRC.
