How to install custom gateways? HELP PLZ!!!!
So, as the title says, I'm wondering how to install custom gateways on the Steam version of the game, and everything I've read has failed... can anybody help me? I don't need to know how I'd put in the graphics, because all I'm doing is the text specs (too much of a hassle to do the graphics too).

I've also read some fancy things about renaming the .dat files into .zip files so you can open them, but the data.dat file, which seems to be integral in the process of applying mods (of any kind), can't be opened as a .zip file, and thus, can't have gateways and other user-created content added to it easily.

FYI: running Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit, and it's a legit license (in case that helps you)

Any helpful input would be appreciated.

You don't need to extract anything; it just helps with understanding the file structure.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you already have a gateway set to go and aren't just making your own. Usually you just want to drop the contents into your install folder.

Either way, there are always two folders to looks for: data and graphics.

So the positions of these files should be:

...and that's about it.

well those folders don't seem to exist, but there are 2 .dat files named data and graphics. And the things I read about turning the .dat files into .zip files temporarily? That works for every .dat file in the install directory EXCEPT data.dat... and what I've read has also said that the graphics for the custom gateway can be put into the zipped graphics.dat... but how should I handle it if the folders don't exist? Make the folders with the names "data" and "graphics" and then put the given files into them?

Also, your assumption that I'm using a premade gateway would be incorrect. I made my own, and it's just the one-line text file with all the main statistics of the machine, but the locations of the equipment are not needed, because there is no graphic... This method has worked for me before, just not on Steam's copy of the game. It worked on an illegally downloaded copy I got off of Mediafire, but I've recently rebuilt my computer, and can't find the link to the Mediafire download.

Just in case you're interested, here's the stats on my machine lol

Dominion -1499000 100 100 0 2 10 400 300 Revelation, Hope, and Dominion: The Three Powers of Man.

and yes... buying the machine IS supposed to give you money lol... In fact, I calculated the price exactly so that the machine pays for all it's own equipment (I'm also accounting for the 3 units of memory you automatically start the game with.)

edit: recalculated the price because it seemed a bit off. It was, so I changed it in both places

Create them yourself. Again, you don't actually need to extract anything.

Create the folder named data. Then inside it create the folder named gateways. Then inside that drop your txt.

after all this time... the issue was that the text file wasn't formatted properly... I hate my life... I had the name and all the gateway stats on one line, whereas it should've been the name on the first line, and all the stats on the second... *facedesks repeatedly*
