In simple terms, to hack Local Area Networks.

How they work: Take any company's LAN, say 'ARC Local Area Network' for an example. First, get a recording of the administrator's voice and save it to your memory banks. Then, bounce using a long connection, and connect to the LAN, and you will appear at the router, or starting point of the LAN. [Always bring up your Connection Analyser and bypass the Proxy and Monitor]

To progress, you need HUD_LanView to see the LAN, similar to a Connection Analysis, except it's the whole screen.

Now you can see where you are (which is currently the router), but you want to go further right? Then go ahead and use LAN_Scan(v3.0 for all tools, please) to view all the systems of the LAN.

There are many terminals in the LAN. You need no more than the basic hacking tools you've had the entire game. A Password_Breaker and a Decypher is all you need. I explain more of what you can get from these terminals below.

Then go ahead and use LAN_Probe to see what the next system is to reveal the next system and a line. The line represents a route in the LAN that you can connect to systems through. Keep probing along until you get to a lock. Then you can either:

1. Do this only if you already have the System Adminstrator after you. Use LAN_Force to break the lock and continue. Keep your Trace Tracker up, because the 'System Administrator' will connect and follow a trail through the LAN. You are disconnected if he ever reaches the system you are on (however, you are not disavowed if you are. Remember to clear your logs once you're out though)

2. Look for an Authentication Server in the LAN (a monitor with a lock on it). Hack this terminal. However, there might be a normal computer that is a Subnet. To connect to an Authentication Server in a subnet, use LAN_Spoof before hacking a terminal with 'Valid Subnet' over it, then hack the Authentication Server.

3. Look for an Isolation Bridge if you don't see an Authentication Server. Hack into it and enable it. You will be reset back to the Router or Modem you connected to if you do this.

Should you ever hit a dead end, look for these guys:

1. Wireless Transmitter - Hack a terminal to look for a frequency number (similar to a radio station), then return to the Wireless Transmitter to reach a new part of the LAN.

2. Modem - Hack a terminal in the LAN. If you see a phone number (ex. 31345-31245) use IP_Lookup on it to find a Modem. Disconnect from the LAN and bounce to this modem to enter. Make sure you reapply your bypassers.

After a while, you should run into a system called the Main Server. Before connecting, go ahead and prepare your Voice Analyser with the admin's voice. Once you connect, the System Administrator will log on, so act fast. Once inside, immediately start hacking the Voice-Print Authentication. Then break the password, and go inside to do your business.

That's both a guide on how you hack a LAN and how the tools come into play.

Quick Question: What is the point of hacking lans, I never had to do it before but I have all of the tools

Some 'Destroy a Database', 'Copy a Database', and a few missions given by the two major rival companies in the game, ARC and Arunmor, target LANs instead of normal systems, like ISMs and Mainframes.

It's to add more difficulty to those missions as you progress through the ranks, as it introduces hacking multiple systems in one hack and creates a feature where you can be disconnected without even having a 10% trace yet.

Thanks for your help, I hacked my first lan and destroyed eveything.

Because of your request, and since I spent a nice chunk on what I had for all of Introversion's Complete Pack (guide access!), I'm in the process of writing a guide series, with the LAN section coming first, then a take on the storyline. ^^

One thing that I did was that I hacked a bank in an early stage of the game only using the moniter and proxy bypasser and I got 1 million. That let me buy everything that I ever wanted

I don't know.
