I love what this game did to my conception of modern computer gaming. Darwinia gave me hope, it helped me realize that I'm not the only one who looks back nostalgically on old games and wishes that the focus would not carry on soullessly into shallow graphics obsessions and endless fps sequels. This game takes the best of arcade-fashion gameplay and adds the 3rd dimension. The first time I saw this game I was fascinated by how simultaneously old and new it looked.
On top of that, this game is fun as hell to play. I care about these freaking computer shapes. I feel sad when they die. I feel happy when they win. The battles in this game can become massive and the death toll can become unconscionable. This is thanks to the story, which beautifully gives life to simple pixellated shapes in such an incredible manner, it makes the whole thing almost believable.
Oh, also. The soundtrack is FREAKING AWESOME. Really. The soundtrack. Is. Awesome. If you haven't played this yet, and consider yourself an avid gamer, please do yourself a favor and buy. I am going to overstep my credibility and label this the original indie game.
