Darwinia
Cracked Intro Screens
I started the game once and noticed a very strange intro. Not one of the ones written by Introversion but by some cracker which appears to be mingling with the system files on Steam. I have never used a cracked version of Darwinia and recently bought it on steam(<3 Introversion) and have played a Clean version of Darwinia before though not on this computer. I have noticed 2 or 3 different intros which don't appear to belong. Just thought I would bring up my suspicion. I would recommend looking into it.

The intro you were referring to is just a joke by the developers. The "DMA Crew" intro was just a homage to the old intros that cracking groups would add before the Amiga games they cracked. Your copy of Darwinia is fine, and nobody is "mingling with the system files on Steam". Also, the "This game is not in any way endorsed by Sensible Software." is a reference to Cannon Fodder, a game for the Amiga.

You're not the only one to get fooled by this, though. Crazily enough, this was one of the first non-Valve games released on Steam. Valve was testing the game before its Steam release, and someone noticed this intro. Not realizing it was a joke, they contacted Introversion to try and sort everything out. Long story short, the Steam release of Darwinia was delayed by a couple of hours due to this little misunderstanding. :P

OH I get it! I suspected something of the sort. Tehehe, Good old Introversion.
I love the Sinclair Spectrum loading screen for Darwinia - took me right back to my childhood in an instant. The Sir Clive look-alike scientist in the game itself always gets me smiling too.
I was tricked by this as well. Always gives me a giggle every time I see it.
The line by line image loading on the spectrum screen brings back echoes of my old Ultimate software playing days....long time ago!
Man, I remember when I first played this for the second time. "Hey, where'd the intro go?"

EDIT, TWO YEARS IN THE FUTURE: Was searching through forums.

I heard that crackscreen fooled the publisher too
Old post, but came here looking for this... I was a little worried, because I've ... I mean a friend has seen a lot of these screens in the past.
