How to set a custom non 16:9 resolution with Widescreen Patcher for NVIDIA users
If you gonna patch the game from the get go with, say, 1440x1080, it won't appear in options, and if you try to edit Hardware.ini manually, it will appear, but the game's gonna crash when you apply it.

So, first of all you need to create your custom resolution in nvidia panel, then, delete Hardware.ini, start a game, and look your res up again in newly created Hardware.ini (you still won't see it in the game). If it's there, that means the game engine will be able to use it. Now you can happily use the patcher to add your resolution in game's menu options and select it without crashing.

For custom resolution in the game's menu to appear and no crashes, two conditions must be satisfied:
1) Must be either created by you in control panel, or be supported by your monitor from the start (it will be reported in Hardware.ini file without you doing anything).
2) Must be patched with Widescreen Patcher.

Happy Holidays.
The end.
