Doesn't work for 8.1, does it?

I was wondering if it would work on Windows 8.1 since it says Win 2000/XP ONLY in the description on steam.
Someone in the forums said it works on Win 7, does it?

Would it work on 8.1?

currently, it does not even work on my 8.0 rig - i get application load error 2. now i'm looking for a way to solve this problem.

works fine for me, ive got this on disc with the 1.4 patch dl. didnt even have to set compatibility mode

i've installed 1.4 patch (downloaded from ubisoft) for my steam version of Far Cry but it's not working. Far Cry still don't want to start...

hmm only thing i can think that might make a difference is i have Direct Play installed, its a windows feature you can enable.

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Win Features on and off > Legacy Components > Direct Play

hadnt played this in years, was bord so thought id see if it worked with my win8.1 and its awesome, anyone thats not played this game and that is good at fps games owes it to them selfs to get this!

yes it will work on windows 7 however not sure about 8.1

Yes, it works with Win 8.1 (just fired it up) but I have the original DVD version with the 1.32 update applied. The 1.4 cumulative patch didn't work for me, so I stuck with the 1.32.

Maybe try applying the 1.4 Standalone Patch and giving it another go. Here's the link:

As a last resort, I may consider making my Bin32 folder available as a zipped file (like what some people did to get the original Crysis to work). Then, apply a later patch if necessary.

I have Windows 8, not uploaded to 8.1. Any guarantee this game will work on this system ?

I have no idea. Nor can anybody really "guarantee" anything for you when it comes to running 32-bit games on a 64-bit OS...

But, for the money, I'd go for it. What do you really have to lose except maybe the price of one Starbuck's Tall or a Cheesburger Deluxe at McD's...

It's not about money, i just don't want to have games that i canät play with mo computer :D It's all about that.
Just need to get this game running and check out what happens
