I'm not great at FPS games but even on Easy I was still unable to complete Far Cry.
I would say when it comes to fps games I am above average. How much above average depends on the game and how much enjoyment I get from playing it. The more I play it, the better I get.
I wanted to beat this game because I beat all the other Far Crys in the series (minus the Xbox exclusive games, which I actually ordered Far Cry Instinct Predator from Ebay and is in the mail), and anticipation for Far Cry 5, I wanted to finally play this game, which has been sitting for years in my Steam library never played.
Though I admire the graphics and levels (especially considering this is from 2004), and like the feel of the guns, I am not enjoying this game, it is too frustrating because of the super hard "cheating" AI. But the reason I play it and want to beat it, as I think you and a lot of other people do, is we don't want such a thing as a video game to "best" us.
I play games for the challenge as well, and get fun from it. Though I am fully aware there are better things to challenge me that will be useful to self improvement. I try to do these things. I hope doing these challenging useful things will gradually become fun like the fun I have from video games. But for whatever reason, playing Far Cry 1 and wanting to punch my monitor gives me a lot more fun than going and pumping some heavy weights or studying grammar of so and so language. I hope that will change in the future. I'm 25.
But I personally doubt it. I think it's the knowledge that you can be doing something better with your time is what makes that activity (in this case, video games) so fun. That's where developing strong discipline and willpower kicks in.
One thing though, is playing video games, does help develop some of your reflexes and problem solving skills that can be used in real life. Still, past a certain point, there absolutely is more useful things you can be doing with your time.
Though I would give Far Cry 1 at least a week's rest, maybe more, and than go back and try to beat the last level legit. Or it will always be on your mind :)
Use console commands (by pressing ~)
\save_game "Whatever you want to call the save without quotes"
and
\load_game "Whatever you want to call the save without quotes"
You kill one enemy without taking little to no damage and using little ammo, save the game. You kill another enemy like this, save the game. Rinse and repeat.
It will save you a lot of time. Saving a lot of time lowers your fustration levels and makes you more focused ;)
That is not technically cheating, as many games, including Far Cry 2 and Skyrim, have this quick saving feature anytime without needing to use the console. Or at least a much better checkpoint system like Call of Duty or Far Cry 3/4.
And btw, Far Cry 2 is an amazing game. These 10 year old graphics maxed out can hold their head high with most Triple A games released today (just like Crysis 1). The game has a steep learning curve. And the story and missions start of a little bit slow. These two factors make many people turn away from the game within the first 3-7 hours and miss out on what an amazing game it really is. I would recommend to play it on Easy for you. While it is nowhere near as hard as Far Cry 1 (I beat Far Cry 2 on Normal), it still offers a lot more challenge than any Call of Duty/Battlefield or even Far Cry 3/4/Primal ever will.
I did it because i find steam ver. 1.4 was harder then the game i played back in 2004/05.
Couldnt find the dvd so I bought it from steam. I beat it on all difficulties back then, but couldnt beat the last 2 missions in vulcano: trigens and then take down Doyle.
Then i find the 64-bit ver. 1.32 in the guides and installed it. Slightly better textures and more locations in campaign. I dind'nt rename bin 32 and 64, just have them both and sendt a icon to desctop and play them seperatly. I can't use steam overlay in 64-bit, but i don't care. I use 64 bit when im outdoors and the last 5-6 levels.
This time i beat the game, all the way up to the last "Realistic" and took down Doyle. I see that when "AI Auto balance" is enebled in steam version, the Mercs do much better, like they are learning as you move on in the game. So I disabled this option. (After you press "Campaign" you see this option.
I have one profile for each difficulty (5) and now i can go in, chose a profile (difficulty) I want to play and pick a mission in any level.
That gives me an option to have 5 differnt settings too. Never use only the default profile.
I have installed 2 mods. Iron sight and Quick save (F5 and F9). I use iron sight most of the game and then Quick save in the last levels. I can Quick save even if Ironsight is enebled, by using the console. Cant use both mods at the same time.
The profiles is used in both ver 1.4 and 1.32 64-bit and the same with the mods. All saves are the same in both versions.
There is a lot of videos in video section you can watch to see how others are doing in almost any level. Take a look and maybe you can get some ideas to improve.
This 64-bit version works on both Nvidia and AMD.

Never playing this game again lol. Cost me too much fustration and stress.
There is a lot of memorisation to progressing. Stealth can be used but you can only really fire a few shots then you have to sprint through the bushes to a completely different place and lie low. It does work. You can also see the invisible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by usuing the night vision googles or heat vision...whatever they are. However, it doesn't make it much easier.
It is a good game though and given the length it is a bargin.
The f*cking last mission is a NIGHTMARE. You literally start the mission surrounded by an army of mutants with rockets; it's almost f*cking impossible to beat on the hardest difficulty.
The only way I beat this game way back when was to play as if my life depended on it. Soo many attempts after dying like 1000x.
