Unreal Tournament 2004

Unreal Tournament 2004

No new Unreal Tournament planned for UE4, Epic says.
Don't warm up your translocator just yet: Epic Games has said it's not currently developing a new Unreal Tournament game, nor does it have any plans to.

"We're not [planning on] shipping an Unreal Tournament game," said Epic boss Tim Sweeney said at a panel during GDC 2014, reported by CVG.

"We have a lot of nostalgia for the game," added Sweeney, "but we're actually not developing anything in the Unreal game universe at all at the moment."

What is Epic currently working on, then? "We've announced Fortnite... That's a game we'll be talking about later."

Later as in, this week? "We don't have anything to show you here at GDC." Oh well.

"There are several other projects that aren't announced yet that are being developed with Unreal Engine 4," Sweeney also said.

That's not even fair. With the release of every version of the Unreal engine, a new Tournament has followed shortly thereafter. It's basically tradition, now.
Are they possibly scared that a new addition won't be so popular as the original release of the franchise.? It seems that a lot of the online community sees Unreal Tournament 3 as a failure.
Maybe they predict a new Tournament won't do well for them financially.

I know quite a number of teenagers playing 2k4 nowadays and it even made them purchase ut3. Their is definitely a market for an UT as long as the game is a good 1.

UT3 failed for several reasons, some regarding support of third party content. UE4 is much less supportive for addons from what i've read, and the like with the encouragement of native code - which contradicts on the basis of UnrealEngine's high level appeal that got it popular in the first place.

Playing just like UT with vehicles added couldn't help UT3 either, even if it did actually play how players wanted it to play.

The majority who play 2k4 to the bone do not really play COD nor BF, more likely CS:GO. Titanfall is already more in the likes atm than BF and COD among UT'ers.

^ I'll agree to that. I've been a fan of Battlefield as well as UT for a while, but they're definitely not similar games. CS:GO is a lot like UT in some regards but not even close in many. Still a more apt comparison than CoD or BF.

Even if one was to be released. I would not get my hopes up, it would probably be dumbed down for the lowest common denominator.
