UT2k4 has more players than UT4 (lel)

I have counted more than 200 player at peak hours.

This is excluding bots, people that play solo and servers that are labelled UT2004 and seems unresponsive despite indicating having players.

UT4 has only 130 - 160 players at its peak hours.

I guess UT2k4 is still the future of UT after all ;p

There are a lot of servers that are not advertised on the Master Server to allow pirate players to play...

Buy it and play it you will see for yourself that it pretty active. There is also hope for the community to grow if Epic lower the prices on steam.

And UT4 is a mess. People hate what the devs have done to the game.

The game was released in 2004. Anyone who ever had an interest in playing it would have purchased the game long ago at some point when it was on sale. It doesn't have any marketing and very little, if any, viral marketing, and it isn't being written about in the gaming press. I wouldn't count on UT 2004 player populations growing much.

No one asked, but that figure of 200 people online, is that humans only or does it also include bots counted as humans? (The UT 2004 server browser counts bots on a server as humans.)

I used the Sever Browser. You can also use https://www.gametracker.com/search/ut2k4/?sort=3&order=DESC (gametracker) for an approximation. Right now there are 142 people. Steam chart only count the people playing with steam (it's like 1/5 of the population).

The Server Browser is the best because you can see if it's players or bots.

I only counted PLAYERS that were playing on the "full game" servers. So 200+ was not even counting the people who are playing with the demo.

Fully agree but it's not about UT2004 becoming Overwatch. It's about reminding our friends of this game so we can bring the peak player count from 200 to 300.

A small community is better anyway ;)

Only servers I've seen players in are a Assault, Mutant, and Onsalught for North America . I wish more players played IG in North America, there's one server in EU that's always full =(.

There is "SoL", "ComboWhore", "A Badass Server", ... if you like TAM or DM ;) The only problem is that they start filling up in the evening and are empty during the day.

But you should try EU servers during the day I believe some of them have lag mutators.

24 people playing CTF-FaceClassic, really? I find that hard to believe since, last I checked, CTF was completely dead for UT 2004. Are you sure that the Gametracker is counting real human players and not just regurgitating what the server browser says (counting bots as players)? I'm gonna have to load up UT 2004 (if it works for me) this evening and do my own player count.

Some servers can show 10/24 with 0 players and bots on it.
