Is the game dead?
I remember when the game came out, almost nobody was playing it for more than a year, you had to be very lucky to find a server with people on it. Then there's been a period where it was super popular and servers had players 24/7. Now it's empty again. I rarely find people to play with.
WTF is going on?
Why doesn't UT3 get more love?

Prolly because the next Unreal Tournament is in creation.
The super popular period was probably when it was free on Steam for like a week and then it was on sale for something like $5. They should probably just make it free to play since nobody plays it anymore and it's basically just a tech demo for Unreal 3 engine anyway. Plus the new tech demo Unreal Tournament for Unreal 4 engine is free.

Nah, i'm pretty sure Roboblitz was a tech demo for the U3 engine as it predates UT3 and is one of the first ever games to use the Unreal 3 engine.
Yeah it was but I meant a tech demo made by Epic :P

Its pretty simple, the game didn't offer enough maps/content it also feels very console like. In fact I do wonder if the Unreal engine 3 was meant for consoles, look at UT99 and UT2k4 both had lots of maps/content, but I think the crown jewel was the A.I. The fact that you could customize the bots behavior individually, like make some bots move faster while makeing others aim a lot better or make some have a defence position etc. UT3 remove all of that, it just left the very basics. The maps in UT3 uses way too much static meshes making ctf, vctf and warfare very cramp. Also there is very little breathing room in ctf and vctf with the respawns, for instance in UT99 and UT2k4 when you got the flag and kill the bots/players defending the flag the game made them respawn further away from the flag giving you small time to get away, UT3 remove that as well, now they just respawn right next to you making it extremely difficult to get away with the flag. To finish my rant I want to like UT3 but it just dissapoints me in some very basic ways, the graphcs makes my eyes want to bleed but at the same time I kind of like them.

As always, it should be mentioned that a new UT game is in the works, more info here: http://www.UnrealTournament.com

To understand what happened with UT3 and why it failed so badly (and pretty much killed the franchise until it was announced that it would be revived about 16 months ago), read this post:

Because it has nothing to do with Unreal Tournament. They don't even say the word "tournament" in the SP, it's some kind of war going on and the story is full of sh!t and the art theme doesn't look Unreal, and the announcer is just too cheesy, and the movement is just lame. It's like a weird mix between UT99 and UT2004 that fails to appeal to both UT camps.

Epic have probably lost their touch then they made the Gears of War games and Bulletstorm.

The older the game, the better it is. The only exception is UT2004, it is better than UT99 imo.

That appears to be the case for alot of developers.

No, it isn't! Not a big community, but people are definitely still playing this great piece of software.
