Slooooooow movement
Maybe I have been spoiled by recent, more frenetic games, but it seems that your character in Unreal II moves REALLY slowly. No, I do not have walk toggled on (walking is painfully slow). The game runs fine, so it's not technical slowdown. Just the "running" speed is so plodding, unlike the other Unreal games, where one zips about nicely. Is it just me?

And loading times are long. Otherwise I like the game. Great design, but of course combat would be more fun if I didn't feel like I was swimming in molasses.

I agree. At first I thought my walk key was toggled, then I figured out I was running and the walk key makes me even slower. I first played this game not too long after it came out and I didn't feel like I was crawling when I was running. I justify it like this: my character is wearing powered armor and the technology doesn't exist yet to make all that armor move any faster. Other than that it's a great game. The first time a Skaarj jumped on the elevator I was in I was like: "Whoa!"

There's a way to double your character's speed. Activate the console by hitting ~, then type in "BeMyMonkey". After that, type in "setspeed 2" and your character's speed will double. It makes the game a lot more fun.

I was able to set this permenantly by editing my unreal2.ini file, in 'unreal2\system' I looked through it with search and found two instances of 'PlayerSpeedRatio=1.000000' and changed them both to 'PlayerSpeedRatio=2.000000'. Maybe Duncan Donuts' fix does the same thing and changes the file, thouigh. I don't have the Steam version, but they should be much the same. I love digging around for tweaks in 'ini' files, sometimes it pays off. Always back any config files up first, though.
