America's Army 3

Former AA2 player. Is AA3 any good now?
I used to play AA2 a lot with friends. I was really excited about AA3, up until I heard it was prematurely released and the dev team immediately fired thereafter. I tried AA3 during the first week or so that it was released, and it was so buggy I couldn't even get through the menu, and to add insult to injury, it would not accept my username from 2000 or so, even after the dev team gave a quick try at making it work, since it was 4 characters and too short for the newly introduced minimum limit. With a new username and as a result the lost of connection to some old AA2 gamer friends, paired with a game so buggy I could not get through the menu, I scratched it off my list.

I thought about it today though, and I thought I'd check and see how AA3 now fares. For those of you who played AA2, how does it compare? I'm downloading it now, but I thought I would post and see what input you could provide. I had some great times with AA2. I may even scrouge up the last version of AA2 that supported Linux and see if there's still a community that plays that version as a result of it being the last Linux version.

Thanks,
DrCR

AA3 is horrible... I miss AA2. Since they moved over to steam only it is not worth the time or hard drive space. I keep deleting it and then a few months later I try again, and still it sucks. I miss the old AA2, I installed it a few months back as it is open source now. It was riddled with punkbuster issues as well so it never worked well either.

I played the original AA somes years back and now see it's moved onto AA3..

Anything I should know???

I'm running Windows 8, is there anything I should know before I waste time installing as it seems like it's very bugged.

ffmdq2, what AA2 version did you try? Just curious. Linux users are not using punkbuster (for obvious reasons...punkbuster does not run on Linux), so I can use the *nix version as a fall back for AA action at the least, but I'm curious as to what version you tried.

Thanks

if you find a good server with good people it's great kick ass n00b servers are awesome.... a lot missing from AA2 but still can be quite enjoyable

Yeah i think its a ton of fun. Just as much as AA2 IMO.
Seeing as how AA3 came out almost 4 years ago and it is still pretty crappy...

Everyone has different opinions and to be honest the only way you will find out is to play it and decide for yourself. I like AA3 and get a blast playing it, especially AI Bridge. My advice is give it a go, it is afterall free and will only cost the bandwidth to DL it. As far as Win8 is concerned there shouldnt be any issues playing but you may need to check the Win8 firewall. Have fun!

I use win8 and have no problems , there should be nothing needed to be done extra..... As for game play the game style it self is the same, better graphics with a few extra things, maps are nice in my opinion, and it is easy to find a server with some kewl peeps to kill

25assist does not work on 64bit Linux.
I wrote a bug report and they confirmed that it will not work.

AA3 is still a good game if you enjoy true teamplay fps action. Also there is no honor fee in renting servers anymore so the pricing has dropped big time for honor servers. I've played both versions going back to 2004 and AA3 is far better.

+1000. Still massively sucks, still filled with bugs. Now I remember why I stopped playing it a couple of years ago. And I also understand why there's some kind of achivement for playing last July...
