Short Game
I beat it in 3.6 hours... there weren't any bosses, not even any mini-bosses, most of the enemies were just houndeyes or headcrabs and almost the entire game took place indoors. It felt unfinished. Opposing force had an abrupt ending too but at least it took me longer that 3 hours... I definately feel that Blue shift is the weakest game in the HL series.

And I just realized what else it was lacking - weapons! there were no alien weapons, only the pistol, revolver, shotgun, SMG, and a rocket launcher (which was useless because again, there were no bosses)

I have noticed all that by my self and don't understund why is it so.

I think you're giving barney too much credit. Would he able to fight off that alien with flamethrowers for arms?

I seem to recall having a real soft-spot for Blue-Shift, and enjoyed it much more than Opposing Force, partly because it was short and simple. I haven't played it in about a decade, but now that I've got 'Black Mesa: Source' out of the way, and I'm waiting for them to do their Xen section (and for Half-Life 2 Episode 3!) I may have to install it and replay it again. Or maybe I'll just wait 7 years for the 'Blue-Shift: Source' mod to be complete...

That's the exact reason i like it too. Short, simple, fun

What didn't you like about Black Mesa? I loved it and so did every other Half-Life fan I've heard from. It was a great recreation of the original game.

Rocket launcher useless? That's like the best weapon in all Half-Life games along with the Revolver -.-

I guess this spin off was just to five the player a feel of what the cop went through to get out of black mesa. Still though it was nice playing the old version of HL with them graphics. However it would've been nice to have a boss.... the strongest thing I fought was probably that monster with the flies arm weapon in the Hex dimention, though it dies quickly with 2 revolver shots ^^

I like it.

In some of these HL games I think man there's just too many weapons!

Think realistically, one security guy without HEV suit (important factor when you battle thousands of enemies in dangerous environment), his mission is not save the world but escape from threat zone and escort important people. Gordon Freeman has HEV suit (the only reason that makes him hero and help survive) and military dude from Opposing Force has special armor protection (can repair on HEV re-chargers) and advanced combat training. If you want different take on Blue Shift try Azure Sheep.

Blue Shift was an expansion made for the Dreamcast version that got canned since the DC was done for. So to recoup some of the loss on the work and effort put into the port they released the Blue-Shift part on PC and included Opposing Force and HD models.

Then later they released a PS2 port with even better HD models and another expansion called Decay. Which did not get released on PC but modders did port it.
