Those with low FPS on more detailed maps...
If you have low FPS on the more detailed maps, we are re-implementing a feature in the coming 8.0 update. The feature allows players to lower the fog distance. Yes it does put you at a disadvantage, but better to have playable FPS and be near-sighted than unplayable FPS. This has actually been possible all along, but 2 things were required. (1) the user must edit his .ini file and (2) the level must use a reasonable min fog distance. In 95% of DH levels, the min fog distance was not properly set. So in 8.0 DH will properly utilize the fog distance feature.

The feature was in Unreal Tournament 2004, the base engine Red Orcehstra was built on. For some reason, Tripwire Interactive removed the setting from the graphic settings page. 8.0 will have it back and the feature should be useful to the diehard fans who have been running DH at terrible frame rates.

However, we still recommend to upgrade your PC with a dedicated graphics card. But, for those who can't or refuse this will be a helpful feature.

Pls not, it's a realistic option i think. Someone told me how to see the FPS in this game, but i forgot it. What code you need to write in console? Or was it something in steam?

Fog is not just for FPS optimization, its for network also, players outside the fog distance are network culled. We are pushing the fog distance out more in new levels, which is why this feature is important as more detail + further fog distance = even more hard on FPS compared to the current detailed levels. New levels are getting network culls from carefully placed BSP net cuts to keep the network optimized as possible. However, that said the new levels will need some long term testing to determine if fog ranges will need lowered.

Type `stat fps` in console to view the FPS in game.

I play DH almost daily on an old laptop. It works but improvements like this are really worth gold to a a player like me. Thanks!

I've always done the same. Really, though, my FPS never had issues as long as I turned off the ♥♥♥♥ I didn't care about. The fog only ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with me on GG's server with tank maps.

When are you going to fix the exploit that lets people see through fog?
BigTed Mar 30, 2017 @ 5:08am
oh and the shooting peoples feet sticking out of walls when they are lying down on the floor inside a building...
Patty Mar 30, 2017 @ 5:43am
The feet could be fixed by having some kind of tracer coming behind the player while prone, then making them crouch if it detects a wall behind them. RO2 does this and it works 90% of the time, but can be annoying when you are forced to crouch while in a fox hole or something.
