Grid on PC is a ♥♥♥♥ty port
I've only played through the tutorial, not gonna bother going further.
Complaints:
1) unskipable cut scenes (especially the loooong one after your first crash explaining what you do next)
2) no support for usb controller? Only reason I have one for racing games, but I couldn't figure out a way to get it to work in GRID. Normally don't have to do anything
3) default key mappings are nonsensical (aside from the arrow keys) I don't care if boost starts with a 'b', map it to a key that I can press easily with the other asigned keys. who the hell has hands that can press 'a', 'b', 'c', 'z', 'end', 'delete', 'page down', and space?
4) "this symbol means auto saving. Dont turn off your PC while it's showing" No one has ever turned off their PC while playing a game. I might alt+f4 the game to get out of an annoying cutscene, since aparently everything is fine as long as I don't turn off the PC.
5) non-analog driving via arrow keys feels much clumsier than it does on most racing games. I suspect they just mapped pressing the arrow key to a full joystick press, without bother to think about what happens when PC players try to tap it a bit to turn gently.
6) no support for mouse interaction on the menu screen. I feel like I'm using DOS.

Will be unistalling the game, and I'm glad I got it when it was on sale, as I'd feel cheated otherwise.

The game has good graphics, a cool destruction system, and seems like decent driving physics. I wish I could enjoy the game properly, but as is I'm going to say a couple of developers took the minimum possible time to get this game ready for PC.

I think that if you got the controller to work it would be alot better experience for you. What type of controller do you have? I have a PS3 controller and I use MotionJoy and the XBOX 360 controller emulator option and I haven't had any problems.

Just give in and buy a 360 controller. You can get one at Walmart for 20 bucks, but they are smaller. I have no problems with my pc controller which I always liked but so many games aren't supporting them. You have to run an emulator and then you don't get your achievements. There is always a catch just throw in the towel and buy one.

See, I do that and my camera always starts shaking like mad within seconds of a race starting. To the point where it's unplayable because I can't see what I'm doing.

Turn Steams in game support off, that caused my Logitech Rumblepad 2 not to work properly. Raptr also causes issues with most games for me with that controller and turning Raptr off also fixes the controller not working / working properly.

Been single playing GRID with a keyboard since 2008 and no problems. But I've never downloaded the Steam version. Could Steam be causing problems for some configurations? I do have to fiddle with the Advanced Settings from one PC to another. But once the proper settings are found for a particular PC, that's it. I don't use game pads, can't be any help there.

P.S. I will say the career intro is a bit strange. Initially the settings are at default unless you've gone in and changed them before the start of the qualifier race (Dodge Viper @ San Francisco, 1 lap). And the default settings are goofy. I almost always start at Savage difficulty with Brake Assist and Stability Control off, Traction Control usually on, depending on which car, and Manual Transmission. Advanced Settings are very dependent on the individual rig and driving style.
