Where is the time trial or practise mode?

I can't find it and wonder how i can drive a fast lap on a track i chose?

Go to Main Menu > Race Day. You can set up your own races there, and I'm not sure but I think you can run laps with no opponents on the track. You choose the car, track, number of laps and number of opponents (and the AI difficulty). Race Day is not part of the career game, but it's the nearest you will get to a pre-race practice session in GRID.

you can test drive cars you have bought in career mode. you can use any car on any track, but only if you buy it in game first. You can also race a ghost if you want.
