Game Freezes when trying to load in Windows 8
Is there any way to fix this? I just spent my money on this game and would like to check it out. I'm using Windows 8. It goes to load, my screen goes black and then it acts as if it's going to load completely only for it to freeze my entire computer. I've had to maually restart my computer twice now. Any suggestions? Thanks

I got it to run on Windows 8.1. You need to go to the program directory, look for all executables 1there, right click, go to properties and select "run in compatibility mode for windows XP". Also go to the program's "fonts" directory and "install" them into your system, that might save you from a crash that may happen later on when loading. As a last resort run the config executable, and play with the options there. Some people say windowed mode worked for them.

PS Dont expect it to be perfect, my screen flickers a lot during gameplay.

As stated from the poster above install the two font folders from the game in Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred Gold\font . Click on them and there will be an install option for each of the two files seperately.

Then go to \Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred Gold\Settings.cfg and edit the file with notepad and change FULLSCREEN : 1 to FULLSCREEN : 0 and hopefully the game will run in windowed mode.

You can then change your monitor screen resolution to like 1024x768 and start up the game it will be fullscreen in a way but a bit distorted.

In the same folders as above, you can just run the CONFIG.exe and set it to 32 bit depth. 9 times out of 10 that solves the problem.

Also, don't be afriad to disable videos, that is sometimes the problem aswell.

Good stuff here. Installing the fonts and then going 32 bit depth and turning off videos lets me play the game in full screen btw.

But in full or window mode, sure wish there was a fix for the really wierd graphic behaviour when fully zoomed out. eesh.

Yeah, sometimes things bugger up, but overall it's a pretty enjoyable experience.

I managed to make it work with a Windows 8-64 bits computer. I don't known if each of my actions were actually useful, but that's the exact settings and actions I use:

Both fonts are installed.
I launch the game which a direct shortcut to the Sacred.exe file. I run the exe in Windows XP SP3 mode and as an administrator, I also disabled the graphical scaling for high resolutions (sorry, I don't know how is exactly called this setting in English versions of the OS, it is on the "Compatibility" tab).
With Config.exe, I activated "32 Bit Color Depth" and "Video Compatibility Mode". "Play Movies" is activated, "Filter Active" isn't. In fullscreen mode, the game often crashes right at the beginning of the first logo cutscene, but not everytimes. It seems to not crash at all in windowed mode, but it is less pleasant to play.
And last, when you're in Sacred main menu, set the ingame graphics quality to "Low". In "Medium" or "High", the game is still TECHNICALLY playable, but filled with graphical artifacts and weird glitches.

When trying to launch it with the default Steam shortcut, before trying to change anything, I only suffered from the bug described in the opening post.
