Bought the game on sale and wont work

I just bought the game Gta iv and Gta episodes from liberty city, im done downloading it, but when i came to the step where i have to activate my game with the game key that i got from steam, it DIDNT WORK, i dont know why. if anyone could helpe me it would be awsome

My game key also didn't work! I tried to verify the cache as recommended in an old Steam forums post but it did not work or give me a new cd key!!!!!

This kind of problem is not surprising, coming from Microsoft, but Steam shouldn't be selling games that don't work. Do they not test to see if their method of delivery works? Ridiculous.

Steam generally to replace the key, and if someone does not start the game set the Games for Windows Live

Yep this just happen to me, this is really annoying. Either fix it or give me my money back.

Same. The game tells me my CD key isn't valid.

I think Steam ran out of CD keys... same thing happened to me. I am sure more are being bought as we speak now

If tried to play episodes from liberty city BEFORE activating vanilla GTAIV then that may be your problem, try acyivating GTAIV before activating episodes from liberty city, also try getting an xbox live account if the first thing doesnt work for you.

I tried :Load Steam
-From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
-Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
-Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
-Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
After verifying the game cache, right-click GTA IV in your game library and choose to view the game CD key. This is the key to use in-game during activation.


But i still have the same Key...

Go to xbox.com, redeem codes (use your steam code), download and install windows marketplace, gta iv should be there (don't download it!) if you click on an arrow it will show the authentication key to use :) I know it's a mess, but it works!

I can also vouch for RedCobra's Solution, I had the same issue and to resolve it I just had to activate the game on the xbox.com redeem code page. Once it was activated there I just had to upate windows live marketplace and then when I logged into the game I was able to log into Live.
