Bully Scholarship Edition requires a DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
So, I've just reinstalled the game for the first time in almost three years. I'm running Windows 10 and am having an issue when I try to start the game. It'll get to the loading screen, and after 1-3 images cycle, it will pop up with the error message in the title and crash. I have a Realtek onboard sound card, and I have tried installing DirectX with the installation files included in Bully's Program Files, as well as trying to change compatibility mode and run as an admin, nothing has worked. There has to be some way to bypass this error message and make the game work, it's driving me nuts. Any help?

same thing happens to me.. I fixed the DirectX 9.0c problem... Turn off steam overlay and if you have the Nvidia Gefore Experince, turn that overlay off also.. I had the same issue and that fixed it. Although im still having problems loading the game, same issue as you but i got past the DirectX issue....

I tried that, it doesn't work. Although I've figured out that the reason Bully is so jacked up is because Windows 10 removed a lot of the libraries and other system files that Bully relies on, so even if the game DOES work it's gonna be a buggy mess. I'm just gonna try setting up a Windows XP virtual machine.

I actually planned to do the same, just don't have an ISO. Please let me know if you get it working on your VM!! I'd appreciate it :D

I know it's been 3 years since this thread was made but I'm starting to have the same problem as well.

Guys I got an update on the fix. Grab the latest version of this patch for Windows 10 here: https://github.com/CookiePLMonster/SilentPatchBully/releases
Once you download it extract to the game's Steam directory and BOOM! Gamer time!

Although I'm playing on Linux via Steam Play, it encountered the same error whenever I enabled anti-aliasing higher than 2x. So try to set anti-aliasing to off or to 2x and see if the problem is fixed. Or just try it on Linux, I don't know...
