Do I need to have played MP to understand this game?

As title.

I tried to get my CD version of PM to run on Win 7 and it was just too much of a PITA. I'm hoping I could jump into MP2 without knowledge of the previous game?

MP2 is direct continuation of MP1 so i don't recommend

Is MP3 a continuation of MP2? if it is, I'm toast because I know MP3 will run fine on my system but MP and MP2 will not.

You won't be able to understand half of MP2 if you didn't play the first one.
I didn't play MP3 yet, but I think there's no need to play the second one.

Don't know why you say MP and MP2 will not run on your PC an MP3 will, i have MP and MP2 working perfectly fine on windows 10 with the sound fix for MP and the widescreen fix on both.

I bought then both through steam.

The only thing thats left for me to do is try some mod for both games, eventually. You are just lazy to not search on the discussions, any info you need to run both games on your PC is here, you just have to search.

The info is here as well as all over Google. I'm just too old to feel like fooling around my system to get them to work.

It's easy and doesn't require much fiddling around. Download a few files, place them in your game directory and run a batch file for the sound fix.
Max Payne 1 is a unique and amazing experience and one of the best action games ever created.

That being said you could play the second one without going through the first. MP2 includes a cutscene accesible from the main menu that provides a brief summary of the first games' plot.
You'd be missing out on a few minor details (and the best game of the franchise imo) but should be able to understand what was going on.

If you really can't play it on windows7, there are ps4 and mobile versions as well. you can also watch cutscenes on yt. The second game is almost completely connected to the first one and you will feel like you slept under the rock and won't get anything.

what is your issue i fixed mp 1 and 2 ,,,,, mp 2 i'm on w 7 but when i get to a cut scene he starts running and i can't play like i did b4 , i was going to try dead on arrival like i done with mp 1 but on dead on arrival you only get so many saves b4 u run out like in mp 1
