Backup the original exe first (You can always redownload it if you verify steam files) Extract to: steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto san andreas gta-sa.exe will replace the Steam 3.0 version with 1.01 (that has the widescreen resolutions) gta_sa.exe is the 1.0 version. You can keep it besides the normal version so you can play the game normally (tested with MTA and it works).

I forgot to mention. Old 3.0 saves won't work with 1.01.

I'm sorry but I dont have an idea on how to do this. Can you break it down for me?

You rock! Thanks! Steam really needs to address this with the publishers. This is the third game I've needed to get an old .exe file to run properly. It would be nice if they offered the old .exe files via Steam so fixes like this can be implemented.
Thanks again!

I got the file to open and now 1920x1080 is selectable BUT the aspect ratio is still wrong, its stretching everything horizontally. Any way to fix this and have it be the correct proportions?

There is a "Widescreen" option somewhere in the menu's.

It doesn't change anything though. When i switch between widescreen off and on the screen remains the same. When i change the resolution and click the mouse button the screen goes black for a second and then changes the resolution. The widescreen on and off feature doesn't make any kind of change.

This doesn't work for me. When I replace the .exe with the one in the zip file, GTA doesn't even start for me. As soon as I press play I get an error message.

The widescreen option if for 4:3 aspect ratio.
To run in a native widescreen resolution change simply select your resolution in the advanced video options. Only select 'Widescreen' if you are running a 4:3 resolution on a widescreen monitor, as this option will crop and stretch the image, and is thus not recommended.
So turn the widescreen option OFF.
The HUD will be stretched but the 3D images will be in proportions.

No specific one. Just says that there was found an error and that the gta-sa.exe had to be closed. It offers me to search for solutions online (but we all know how much of a help that is) and to close the window.
