Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Game freezes after entering new area
Ocassionally, but not every time, Gta Sa will freeze when I change areas, like entering a restaurant or starting a mission, so whenever the screen goes black and either shows you the mission title or the new location name. This is very frustrating because I have to use only the outdoor save areas, like near the garage in San Fierro, or I risk the game freezing when I try to enter a safe house (which is not all that uncommon). I'd say the risk for the game freezing when I enter a new area or start a mission is about 1/20 times, which is far too risky.

I've already tried deleting my gta_sa.set file in the GTA User Files folder, but that doesn't help. I've reinstalled the game, and that doesn't help either, and I have also tried verifying integrity of the game's cache files, which doesn't come up with anything wrong with the game.

It is VERY frustrating, because an hour ago I decided that I was going to finish my last 28 taxi fares to get the taxi nitrous, and then the game froze when I was entering a safe house after I had done it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I used to have same problem. Try disabling all cores except one in Task Manager, that helped for me.
this happens to me to. But I didn't buy a quad-core i7 to disable cores, and something tells me that should not be necessary.
Actually this happened to me on a dual core processor. Currently I'm using quad core and this problem not occurs.

Thanks for the help guys! I am using an i7, so I disabled all cores except for one, and I haven't had a freeze yet! Also, the performance seems to stay pretty much the same, so I don't mind using only one core.

Thanks again!
so i found that while I'm actually playing, as long as the Steam window is closed and the icon is NOT on the system icon part of the toolbar, it doesn't freeze (all cores going). However, it is in the notifications section. But when I try to load a file as I'm playing, the game force stops. WHY? I wanna be able to reload my file after I try betting all my money on 12:1 horses at the ITB.

Had the same problem just redownloaded it and it worked like a charm!
OK but is there a way to save my progress if I'm gonna redownload? I want a solution where i DON'T redownload.

Yeah, you go into "Documents" or "My Documents" depending on what version Windows you have, and there should be a folder called "GTA San Andreas User Files." If you open it, you should find a file called "GTASAsf1.b" which is your savegame. Copy that file to somewhere else on your computer where you'll remember, and delete the folder that you just got it from ("GTA San Andreas User Files"). After that, uninstall the game, and reinstall it. When you reinstall, the folder probably won't be there. That's ok! Just start up GTA San Andreas, and then quit when you get to the Main Menu. Then, go back and look for the "GTA San Andreas User Files" folder, and it should be in the same spot that it was before. Copy your save file back into that folder, and you should be ready to go!

Oh and the save file might have a different number in there, depending on what number save you used ("GTASAsf1.b" or "GTASAsf2.b" or so on). Just copy the saves that you want and you should be good if you follow the instructions I just typed above.
