Since it has been ported to MAC OS X, it's problably fairy easy to do so on to Linux.

I bought the complete GTA series yesterday under Linux, so they can see it as a purchase for Linux. Better than nothing :D

And there is also this petition: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/rockstar-games-release-pc-games-for-the-linux-operating-system

Not really. OSX is a BSD POSIX UNIX system. To port to the Linux kernel running systems you need to take into account differing libs, kernel versions and widget sets. Eg, some might use GTK+2, others 3, some might use QT2, others 4. Or even FLTK. Then you have the issues of new display servers hitting the market. Fedora using one, Canonical choosing a different one, and in the end people like me sticking the X.org. Similair issue when porting drivers from XFree86 to Xorg 7+.

Considering all Rockstar Mac games use WINE, it's entirely possible.

WINE is an application layer and not suited to the job. A lot break on newer releases, so unless you have time to patch the code up, afraid it's not a suitable replacement for an actual port. Cedega tried it using actual propriety code from the official development team but even that had issues doing it. It's tricky.

But usally games has own toolkits and does not depend on non-system libraries. Games, that is ported to MAC already ported to OpenGL and POSIX threading model and all that need to port is code displaying window and audio subsystem and just recompile it to Linux kernel/GNU libc.
