Game not starting

I recently purchased this game, downloaded and installed it. Double clicked to run the game and it opens for 2 seconds, changes my version of windows and then exits, without a trace of the game ever loading..... HELP

Hi guys, i think I had the same problem. This solution helped me:

1 - Right click at computer => Properties
2 - Go to the advanced System Settings on the left then click settings under the performance tab.
3 - Then go to Data Execution Prevention
4 - Turn on DEP if you haven't already, then add gta3.exe from steam to the list.

Its from a different steamforum thread, thanks to the user oneliojr!

I know this is an old thread but I had the problem and none of these fixes worked for me. I went into documents and deleted the folder called GTA 3 User Files and that fixed everything.

I can't find that folder.

thanks jozzz, your method worked for me.
It was the file gta3.set (which I assume is a settings file) that would stop the game from loading, so I got rid of that one and kept the other save files.
