Missing text in menu
The game was working fine earlier in the day, but all of a sudden, I'm getting these semi-transparent text (invisible text when I click on something) in the menus.

I have tried verifying the integrity of the game's cache several times.
One file could not be verified and so Steam retrieves it every time I try, but it doesn't help.
Running the game in backwards compatibility mode (Windows XP service pack 3) and as an admin don't help either.

Does any of you happen to know a solution?

I have tried running the game in backwards compatibility mode as Windows 98/Windows ME and it seems to work.
I still don't know why I'm having this problem though.
I do seem to lose my save file in the proces.
If I copy the two files from the GTA3 User Files folder to the new GTA3 User Files folder, which is empty (it appears after starting the game in Windows 98), I'm getting the same problems with the menus again.
I wasn't too far into the game, but it's still annoying that I'll need to restart my playthrough...

Just found out that the problem lies with the SET-file of the GTA3 User Files folder, the other file - the B-file - is your save data.
Simply remove the SET-file and the text of the menus will be back.
You will need to restore any changes you had made before and turn frame limiter and v-sync on. Hopefully the problems will stop now.

Think the solution is to not run the game in wide screen resolution.

Though I don't have a widescreen monitor, a 4:3 is what I use :P
But for me it was really the frame limiter and the v-sync, they must be on or I'd get those semi-tranparent/invisible text. A shame, because I enjoyed playing it on 60 FPS.

Thanks for your reply, anyway :)

Enabling both frame sync and frame limiter did solve all my issues with the menus in the game.

Try pressing alt+tab or windows key. The more I minimize/maximize the game, the brighter the menu gets each time
