I cant even open it without it crashing instantly.
Everytime I open it it just sends me back to steam without any menu or anything. Same with Vice City too. Any help?

Try changing compatibility to Windows 7 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto 3 on gta3.exe this got GTA 3 working for me.

I too have this issue for GTA III and VC, I've tried running as administrator and various compatibility modes too.

Do you guys have dep (data execution prevention) disabled? you need to enable it for the activation.
Mors Feb 10 @ 3:26pm
Yeah i have it disabled. I've come across a similar issue with old games which explorer for some reason stops a game from working and made a batch file that kills explorer on launch but still didn't work. I've also disabled visual effects and so forth in windows incase some weird conflict there too.

Enable it, you need it for the first time activation thing.

I just tried that, didn't fix it for me sadly.

Is there a specific error that you can see? are you using windows 8?

I also tried everything that all the forums told me to do and none of them helped.

But I did get it working by changing my screen resolution to 1280x720 then running the game which got it working. Try that maybe?
