GTA III Will Not Start
So I have had GTA III on my computer for a while and it has worked fine. For some reason, however, I try to start and only see a black screen. After a few seconds, the game crashes back to the desktop. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, but the issue persists. The only thing about the game I change is replacing the particle file to fix the dark cars glitch. I have tried to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME and Windows XP SP2. I also have tried running the game as an admin. However, I have not been successful in launching the game. I have recently performed a Windows update so I don't know if the update is conflicting with the game because I have Vice City as well and it is experiencing the same problems as GTA III.

Anyways, my Computer Information is as follows:

Laptop Type: Toshiba Satellite

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Memory: About 4 GB of RAM

Processor: Intel Core i3-3110M

Direct X: Direct X 11

BIOS: InsydeH20

Graphics Card: Onboard Intel Graphics HD 4000

About 353 GB of hard disk space

Have you tried deleting "gta3.set" in \GTA3 User Files\ folder? That is usually the culprit in these cases.

I resolved the issue and the game works again. But thank you.

The way I worked it out was that I believe there were two folders in my documents section titled GTA 3 User FIles and I deleted one of them.
