Incooperative vehicle bots?
I'm having real difficulty cooperating with bots in vechicles. Driver bots get stuck and drive back and forward eternally, turret bots don't shoot the target and keep whirring the turret around for no good reason.

Is this how it is or am I missing something obvious?

RO1 bots does that (especially when they are in the vehicle). And indeed it is annoying when situation is critical. It's about 6 years old game, what do you expect. Still I think RO1 is excellent game.

Yeah, didn't do my research before buying, only bought it because of the Linux version. Seems RO2 doesn't have it though - sucks.

Oh and for expectations, I don't think it matters how old the game is, if the bots were this low quality they shouldnt've been released as such. Nobody was releasing bad bots in 80's because it was the 80's either. You just don't release it if you can't get it right. I'm not overly fussed, but that shouldn't be an excuse for poor quality.

Well AI do stuff unless they are not in the vehicle. And RO was not supposed to be Players verus AI game. It was multiplayer based between real people. I think OFP:CC did great job on AI at the time. Anyway, I like RO1 way more better than RO2, since much larger maps, more vehicle that you can use, and more realistic experience. RO2 is more like arcade style if you ever played it. But based on infantry battles RO2 have much more improvements, but RO1 still dominates tank battles than RO2.

Yeah, the tank stuff is definitely fun.

Bots are crudely scripted in RO1; they're not really meant to provide anything other than something to pad out a server; I agree that they are utterly useless and downright dangerous if they get in a tank with you. RO2 got this particular behaviour right.

Use your In-Game Voic command menu, select Get out! order and bot will leave the tank.

I tried that, one left but the other stayed.

I just avoid playing on servers with bots, for that particular reason and for many others. I either join a server with people one and without any bots, or I just play something else if such server is not available for the moment.
